Job description
This is a unique hybrid position combining IT technical support and pharmacy technician responsibilities.
Approximately 15% of the position will focus on IT support across our pharmacy, laboratory, and pharmaceutical operations, including approximately 25 computers, printers, networking equipment, cameras, and other technology.
The remaining 85% will support pharmacy operations, including answering patient and provider calls, customer service, prescription-related workflow, and other pharmacy technician responsibilities under pharmacist supervision.
This is not a full-time IT position. Candidates should be comfortable working primarily within a pharmacy environment while serving as the organization’s first point of contact for routine IT issues.
Pharmacy Technician Registration - Required
Because this position works directly within pharmacy operations, the employee must hold an active Texas Pharmacy Technician License. If the candidate does not currently have a pharmacy technician license, ApocusRx will assist with and pay the cost of obtaining a Texas Pharmacy Technician Trainee Registration that will be valid for 2 years along with providing required trainings. Candidates who already hold an active Texas Pharmacy Technician registration are strongly preferred.
IT Responsibilities - Approximately 15%
- Provide day-to-day technical support across ApocusRx pharmacy, laboratory, and pharmaceutical operations.
- Troubleshoot Windows desktop computers.
- Install and configure PCs, monitors, printers, scanners, and peripherals.
- Troubleshoot network and Wi-Fi connectivity.
- Support standard office and pharmacy printers.
- Troubleshoot barcode and label printers.
- Assist with IP cameras and security camera systems.
- Set up computers and user workstations for new employees.
- Install and update approved software.
- Troubleshoot email and Google Workspace issues.
- Assist with user accounts, passwords, and access.
- Maintain basic IT equipment and asset inventory.
- Diagnose hardware problems and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Work with outside IT, software, internet, and equipment vendors when escalation is required.
- Help maintain reliable technology across approximately 20 workstations.
Pharmacy Technician & Customer Service Responsibilities - Approximately 85%
- Answer incoming calls from patients, physicians, clinics, and healthcare providers.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service.
- Assist patients with prescription status and general pharmacy inquiries.
- Route clinical questions to pharmacists when appropriate.
- Enter prescription and patient information into pharmacy systems.
- Assist pharmacists with prescription processing and workflow.
- Communicate with physician offices regarding prescriptions when authorized.
- Assist with refill requests.
- Help coordinate prescription shipping and delivery.
- Prepare shipping labels and related documentation.
- Assist with pharmacy inventory and supply management.
- Receive and organize pharmacy supplies.
- Maintain organized pharmacy work areas.
- Perform pharmacy technician duties under pharmacist supervision and within applicable Texas pharmacy regulations.
- Assist other departments with operational tasks as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong general computer and technology skills.
- Comfortable troubleshooting PCs, printers, and basic networking issues.
- Strong telephone and customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal communication.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.
- Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable working in a regulated healthcare environment.
- Willingness to perform both technical and pharmacy-related responsibilities.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain the required Texas pharmacy technician registration., * Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
- Previous pharmacy experience.
- Previous healthcare customer service experience.
- Experience troubleshooting Windows PCs.
- Basic networking knowledge.
- Experience with printers, scanners, and barcode/label printers.
- Experience with security/IP camera systems.
- Google Workspace experience.
- Pharmacy software experience., You may be a great fit if you are the person friends and coworkers call when their computer, printer, Wi-Fi, or phone isn’t working-but you also enjoy helping people, answering calls, learning new things, and working as part of a healthcare team.
We are especially interested in candidates who already have pharmacy technician experience combined with strong computer skills, but we are willing to train the right technically capable candidate and assist with obtaining the required Pharmacy Technician Trainee registration.
