Job description

Performs routine work and applies minimal independent judgement and familiarity of the field to perform work. Adheres closely to established policies and procedures to complete tasks. May be responsible for administration of low complexity departmental programs., The Security Analyst is responsible for analyzing the security implications of information technology networks with emphasis on the engineering, monitoring, resolution, and support of enterprise information. Responsibilities include identifying, validating, troubleshooting, resolving, and reporting on security incidents and events based on District policies and procedures; researching and reporting on advanced security related issues to evaluate potential vulnerabilities in District systems; making recommendations for improvements to infrastructure, systems architecture and District policies; and performing forensic information security investigations involving any/all District computers, computer systems and servers and networking infrastructure. Supporting and engineering responsibilities include access to, and the handling of, confidential or sensitive data, materials, and enterprise information, involving all levels of the organization., 1. Assists with monitoring, operating, and maintaining hardware and software Information Security Solutions; monitors the physical and logical components of information systems and network security architectures for all technology environments including server, desktop and mobile computing, as well as telecommunications, technical operations, and applications services. Monitors and maintains security solutions (Firewall, NAC, IPS/IDS, VPN, Endpoint Protection, etc.).

  1. Assists with troubleshooting security, network, infrastructure, and application issues by applying root cause analysis to mitigate issues and establish return to service

  2. Identifies and evaluates Information Security solutions and technologies to enhance productivity and effectiveness of information security across the organization

  3. Assists and supports monitoring compliance in the implementation of Policy, Procedures, and Regulations and assists in the remediation of non-compliance such as user authentication, security violation, escalation, use of firewalls and encryption methodologies and overall handling, transfer and storage of data across the District.

  4. Assists in response to security incidents by identifying, validating, reporting, mitigating, and resolving incidents and events based on enterprise policies and procedures; utilizes technologically advanced hardware and software tools to proactively monitor and analyze District infrastructure in search of malicious, illegal, or fraudulent activity

  5. Serves as a resource to IT staff in resolving basic security issues and escalates more complex issues.
  6. Maintains 24-hour per day, 7-day per week availability via mobile telephone or email for response to

emergency or related operational issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years equivalent experience.

  • Up to two years designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise networks; up to one year managing

firewall, and content filters.

  • Pursuing a Security+/CCNA Security certification.

  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee

(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college, or university in a related field.

  • Two or more years designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise networks; up to one year

managing firewall, and content filters.

  • Security+/CCNA/CCNA Security.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology, No Child Left Behind Title 2, Part D Legislation

and Completion of Texas Virtual School Network approved professional development.

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding; access to student education records (FERPA),

student internet safety (CIPA) and Digital citizenship.

  • Experience with information security, procedures, and the monitoring, and basic analysis of security

environments.

  • Experience directly managing firewall and content filters that include white/blacklisting, access control,

maintaining firewalls, DMZ, etc.

  • Knowledge of managing Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) certificate-based network access., * Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or

irregular hours; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; Occasional: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel.

Pay Grade: E12 Minimum Salary: * $53,629 Mid-Point Salary: $65,004

  • Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit. For

more information on our pay policy, please refer to the Compensation Resource Manual. Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date.
