Job Summary This EO/IR Systems Test Engineer will be deeply involved in and responsible for sophisticated EO (visible-NIR), SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR reflective and refractive optical imaging subsystems specifications and requirements development. Responsibilities include device-level, subsystem-level, and full system-level optical and imaging testing, image quality analysis, and evaluation. The engineer will perform hands-on EO/IR imaging testing both in the lab and in the field as a key member of the Systems Engineering group., * Lead and perform VIS/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR imaging sensors, payload, and full EO/IR gimbal systems testing in labs or product application fields.
- Perform optical design using ZEMAX tools and conduct tolerance analysis.
- Perform radiometric analysis, troubleshooting, and EO/IR image sensor and systems performance verification.
- Develop design verification test (DVT) plans and test procedures.
- Analyze test data and create detailed test reports.
- Support the team in developing specifications and requirements for optical components, optical imaging subsystems, and full optical systems.
- Create, review, and present flow-down specifications for lower-tier optical components and subsystems.
- Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Report progress and findings to functional managers and project leads.
Requirements
BS or MS in Optical Engineering, Optomechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years of direct EO/SWIR/IR optical and imaging design & test experience.
Solid foundation in optical engineering principles.
Demonstrated hands-on experience characterizing and testing EO/IR sensor systems.
Demonstrated hands-on experience designing optical lenses, Cassegrain systems, prisms, optical filters, etc., for EO/IR imaging.
Demonstrated proficiency using the ZEMAX optical design tool.
Strong knowledge base and experience with VIS/NIR/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR materials.
Demonstrated experience creating Design Validation Test (DVT) plans and reports.
Excellent knowledge of optical design reviews, optomechanical interface models, and drawing reviews.
Strong background in EO/IR image sensors and EO/IR/Laser range finder system integration.
Experience leading or collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams on new product development from concept through PDR, CDR, TRR, to LRIP.
Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining, and tracking specification compliance matrices, as well as risk identification and mitigation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance if required.
