Job description

DUTIES As a successful candidate for the Application Developer/Reverse Engineer III role, you will serve as a Software Engineer and Reverse Engineer to develop cutting-edge security tools in a fast-paced, agile environment. Supporting key national security missions, you will work largely independently to research emerging opportunities and directly address customer requirements. Collaborating closely with analysts, data scientists, and software engineers within CNO’s Alternate Tradecraft Product Group, you will rapidly adapt and deploy new security solutions to deliver high-impact capabilities into operational use.

Requirements

  • Develop Python applications to automate analysis and operational workflows
  • Reverse engineer network traffic and web applications
  • Engage directly with customers to gather requirements and ensure optimal tool functionality
  • Coordinate with software development teams to incorporate new technologies and leverage shared libraries
  • Manage data flows and data formatting to enable seamless integration into client systems

QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor of Computer Science or Computer Engineering and a minimum of Twelve (12) years of software/system development is required. Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. A Master’s of Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a minimum of Ten (10) years of experience is also acceptable. Experience must consist of technical expertise in at least three (3) of the following areas:

  • System Requirements Analysis
  • Software System Design
  • Software System Development
  • Software System Integration
  • Software System Testing

In addition, the individual shall have at least ten (10) years of work experience in four (4) or more of the following areas:

  • Developing software applications in C, C++, or Java
  • Developing software applications for Unix, Linux, or Windows environments
  • Developing DLLs for the Windows environment
  • Development on computer telephony platforms using cards such as Dialogic
  • Object-oriented design and programming
  • Working knowledge of common protocols/standards such as TCP/IP, SNMP, H.323, X.25, 802.1I, 802.16, SIP, MEGACO, or MGoogle Cloud Platform
  • Web development with XML, PHP, MySQL, ColdFusion, or Apache
  • Script writing using Perl, Python, Bourne shell, C shell, or other proprietary scripting languages
  • Database experience with Sybase, Oracle, or Microsoft (SQL Server)
  • Reverse engineering and analysis of software
  • Kernel knowledge of Unix (Linux)
  • Bit-level data analysis

Additionally, the candidate must be able to:

  • Demonstrate production-grade software development experience in Python
  • Analyze web protocols and traffic including HTTP, HTML, and JavaScript
  • Monitor network communications using Burp Suite, browser developer tools, or Wireshark
  • Containerize and deploy services using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Utilize Git and GitLab for version control and repository management
  • Leverage AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or Cursor to streamline workflows
  • Apply Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence to support project management and documentation

  • Design and configure GitLab CI/CD automated builds
