Job description
A successful Enterprise Design System Lead defines the strategy, governance, and evolution of a single enterprise design system that unifies fragmented systems into one governed platform. This role ensures the design system is machine-readable, accessible, and aligned with enterprise standards so teams and AI agents can generate consistent UI at scale. The role also partners across design, engineering, product, accessibility, and AI platform teams to drive adoption, quality, and measurable business impact.
What you will do?
- Define and maintain the enterprise component library, token architecture, federated governance model, roadmap, versioned releases, prioritized backlog, and adoption metrics while operating the design system as a product.
- Own contribution governance end to end by vetting inputs from product teams, cross-enterprise initiatives, and AI-assisted pipelines, enforcing WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, and managing semantic versioning, deprecation policies, and migration support.
- Structure the design system for AI and design-to-code delivery through machine-readable metadata, structured annotations, token mapping, naming conventions, reflection-and-review patterns, human-in-the-loop control points, and alignment with the coded library.
- Manage Storybook as the living enterprise reference by maintaining documentation standards, accessibility testing, visual regression testing, security posture, framework-agnostic delivery, and self-service usability for cross-functional teams.
- Drive adoption, enablement, reporting, people leadership, and cross-functional representation by partnering with design champions, translating performance data for leadership, mentoring Systems Designers, documenting institutional knowledge, and representing the system in governance forums.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in product or UX design.
- 3+ years owning or leading an enterprise-scale design system serving multiple product teams, frameworks, and stakeholder groups.
- 1 bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, enterprise design system governance, and Figma library architecture across multiple consuming teams.
What would be nice to have?
- 1+ year of hands-on experience with AI-assisted design-to-code workflows, including structured design APIs, MCP, or similar approaches.
- 1+ year of experience deploying and maintaining Storybook at enterprise scale with accessibility and visual regression testing integration.
- 1+ year of experience in financial services or another regulated industry supporting compliance-driven workflows.
