Job description

We are a COOL and FUN crew that works hard and plays maybe even a little harder. Our core team is an impressive group of engineers with exceptional leadership at the helm.

Black Cape is led by proven business and engineering leaders with a track record of building innovative technology companies focused on building mission applications. We support many programs and agencies as both a prime and a subcontractor and created a strong reputation working with top tier partners doing work for all major Intelligence Community agencies, DoW, and Special Operations customers.

Our engineer-led software teams develop technical solutions on an aggressive schedule across the DoW and IC to meet customer needs. Our engineers apply proven, repeatable software, technical, and analytical approaches to build solutions and have frequent interaction with end users to produce and deploy solutions.

We bring experience in building, integrating and deploying AI/ML solutions using Google TensorFlow, Python scikit-learn, and other tools. Black Cape’s approach to solution development combines lessons learned from developing and deploying applications to customer cloud environments with industry best practices in Agile development and DevOps.

What we are hiring:

We are seeking a talented and security-cleared UI/UX Designer to join our mission-focused team. The systems you build will directly support national security, tactical operations, and critical decision-making for our government customers.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex government data and intuitive, human-centered software. Working directly within secure government facilities, you will collaborate face-to-face with developers, product owners, and end-users to drive the visual direction of our applications.

As the core designer for these systems, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Wireframing & Low-Fidelity Mockups: Distilling complex, secure workflows into clean, structural layouts that allow for rapid iteration and alignment among stakeholders.
  • High-Fidelity Mockups: Crafting detailed, interactive mockups that bring clarity to highly technical government data and serve as a clear blueprint for developers.
  • Collaborative Design: Transforming feedback from analysts and operators into elegant, secure, and highly functional interfaces.

Requirements

Clearance: TS/SCI - Must be willing to get a CI Poly

MUST have an Active TS/SCI clearance and be willing to get a CI Poly, * Must have a Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of professional experience

  • Experience working onsite with DoD and/or IC customers
  • Strong ability to design wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for web applications
  • Strong ability to drive overall visual design, layout, and composition of web applications
  • Experience working with end-users to identify their needs, articulate challenges, and propose user-centric solutions
  • Familiarity collaborating with full-stack development teams in agile workflows
  • A portfolio or experience of recent design projects that demonstrates your skills in wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity visual design (if you have been onsite working on proprietary cleared projects - we do understand that you may not have recent visibility into your projects)
  • Experience with at least one of the following Design Tools: Figma (most important for this program), Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools - and/or willingness to learn new tools

Preferred Technical Skills (NICE TO HAVES):

  • Experience meeting with application stakeholders directly
  • Experience developing User Personas, User Studies, and Information Architecture
  • Proficient with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
  • Familiarity with modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue - understand how they work but do not have to have extensive experience coding in them
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements and best practices
  • Prior work in environments with strict accreditation and security requirements
