Job description

Join Walmart’s Cassandra Platform team to design, operate, and continuously improve one of the largest distributed database environments in the world. This role combines production ownership with hands-on engineering focused on automation, reliability, and AI-driven efficiency. What you’ll do:

  • Reports to: Senior Engineering Manager, Cassandra Platform
  • Design and build automation to manage provisioning, scaling, upgrades, decommissions, and health monitoring of Cassandra clusters
  • Reduce repetitive operational work by developing internal tools and self-service capabilities
  • Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response and root cause analysis for production systems
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across a large-scale distributed database footprint
  • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted tooling to improve diagnostics, alert quality, and engineering productivity

Requirements

  • Experience building backend or platform software using Java, Python, Ruby, and shell scripting
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting distributed systems in production environments
  • Ability to identify manual processes and replace them with scalable automation
  • Experience participating in on-call and incident response
  • Experience collaborating across engineering, cloud, and reliability teams, Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Sunnyvale, California US-11349: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
