Job description
Experienced Technical Architect (Hands-on) responsible for defining and building the end-to-end architecture of a specialty insurance claims data platform on Microsoft Fabric. Owns the solution design, technology decisions, and implementation of a production-grade Lakehouse and Medallion Architecture, leading data ingestion, transformation, governance, and analytics while actively contributing to development and delivery.
Why This Role Matters
The customer processes 50,000+ claims annually across 250+ Third-Party Administrators using a fragmented, manual intake stack. The platform you architect will eliminate that friction, automate eligibility workflows, and become the data foundation on which all future AI/ML, BI, and operational capabilities are built. Phase 1 establishes a production-proven foundation on five priority TPAs - the architecture you get right here sets the pattern for the full TPA network in subsequent phases.
What You’ll Do
- Understand the customer’s business needs and translate to a technical architecture design.
- Design scalable and configurable data ingestion, transformation, and onboarding frameworks capable of supporting multiple TPA file formats, schema evolution, drift detection, and rapid provider onboarding.
- Define and implement historical data management, auditability, and replayability strategies, ensuring complete record versioning and preservation of historical business data.
- Design how the system recognises the same claimant across different files, years and spellings, using a set of matching rules with human review for the uncertain cases.
- Design how the system will incorporate both OLAP and OLTP processing to meet different use cases. An OLAP process that produces a canonical model for analytics purposes and an OLTP process that feeds the web applications for Eligibility data management, failed file review, and system auditability.
- Design and govern data quality, reconciliation, validation, duplicate detection, exception handling, and intake control frameworks to ensure data accuracy and operational reliability.
- Design and integrate Azure AI Document Intelligence or equivalent solutions for automated extraction and processing of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Design and govern the Security and compliance side: who can see what, how sensitive health data is protected, how everything is logged, and how data is retained for seven years.
- Design how the platform copes with roughly ten different file layouts per data provider, so that new layouts can be added by configuration rather than new code.
- Write down every significant technical decision so the design survives beyond any one person.
- Design secure operating models that enable global delivery while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and US PHI handling requirements.
- Lead architecture reviews, establish engineering standards, document key design decisions, and provide technical governance across all workstreams.
- Serve as the primary technical advisor to client architecture, security, platform, and business leadership teams, driving architecture decisions, managing technical risks, and providing clear recommendations on trade-offs and solution direction.
Partner with client and delivery teams to define data consumption patterns, integration standards, and modernization roadmaps, ensuring successful program delivery and scope governance
Requirements
- Microsoft Fabric expertise including Lakehouse, OneLake, Data Pipelines, Delta Tables, SQL Database/Warehouse, and Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
- 14+ years of IT experience with 10+ years in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, and Analytics.
- 8-10+ years of Azure Data Platform and Cloud Architecture experience, including integration, governance, security, scalability, and performance optimization.
- 10+ years of experience designing enterprise data platforms and layered architectures (Raw, Standardized, Curated).
- 8+ years of hands-on SQL and Python development experience.
- 5+ years of experience designing historical data retention and auditability solutions, including record versioning, change tracking, SCD Type 2, and full history preservation.
- 8+ years of experience in Data Quality, Data Governance, Reconciliation, and Intake Control frameworks.
- 5+ years of experience in Master Data Management (MDM), record matching, deduplication, entity resolution, and survivorship rules.
- 3+ years of experience with Azure AI Document Intelligence (Form Recognizer) or equivalent document extraction solutions.
- 5+ years of experience designing HIPAA/PHI-compliant healthcare data platforms, including privacy, retention, residency, and access controls.
- Strong client-facing architecture leadership experience, serving as the primary technical authority to drive architecture, design, and implementation decisions.
Secondary Skills (Good-to-Have)
- Experience working with insurance claims, healthcare payer, or health-plan data platforms.
- Experience with Snowflake data platform architecture and implementation.
- Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect, or related Microsoft certifications.
Soft Skills & Other Competencies
- Communication Skills: Effectively communicate with stakeholders using clear verbal, written (emails, documentation), and instant messaging approaches to ensure alignment.
- Interpersonal Skills: Build and maintain productive relationships across cross-functional teams, provide constructive feedback during requirement workshops, and be open to stakeholder input.
- Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical mindset to evaluate process flows with the ability to troubleshoot requirement gaps, compliance risks, and process inefficiencies.
- Task / Work Updates: Prior experience working in Agile/Scrum projects with tools like Jira or Azure DevOps. Provide regular updates, demonstrate proactivity, and show due diligence in carrying out responsibilities.
- Stakeholder Management: Skilled in facilitating workshops, UAT sessions, and requirement walkthroughs while acting as a liaison between business and technical teams to ensure clarity and consensus.
