Job description
- Champion Quality Assurance and Testing (QAT) across several teams, providing technical leadership, direction, and guidance.
- Drive collaboration between engineers in different roles, both within your team and across wider teams, to solve problems and enable consistent solutions, standards, and strategies.
- Build automated testing solutions that help assure the quality of our products, contribute to their design, and continuously identify ways to improve the value that automation provides.
- Ensure that usability, accessibility, security, stability, performance, and capacity considerations are Embedded throughout the development of services.
- Drive teams to adopt a risk-based and context-driven approach to Agile testing, assessing and understanding risks to support informed decision-making.
- Lead the adoption of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to execute a comprehensive range of automated tests against our products and assure the quality of our builds.
- Lead the traceability of testing activities, requirements, risks, and defects, and report progress, quality status, and risks to appropriate stakeholders across several teams.
- Be willing to challenge assumptions and existing processes to drive continuous improvement, reusing and evolving our testing strategies, frameworks, and tooling where appropriate.
- Drive the identification and adoption of tooling and technical solutions that enable continuous improvement and ensure we build the right product in the right way.
- Proactively share knowledge and solutions, contribute to internal communities of practice, and mentor, coach, and support peers and other members of the testing community.
- Define an enterprise-level UI and API automation strategy aligned with product, engineering, release, quality, and business objectives.
- Define and govern reusable automation frameworks, libraries, coding standards, test-data utilities, reporting solutions, configuration, and environment management.
- Govern browser and mobile UI automation, including page/component patterns, selectors, synchronization, cross-browser coverage, accessibility checks, screenshots/traces, and flaky-test controls.
- Ensure automated tests execute at appropriate stages of the delivery pipeline, including PR/commit, build, deployment, regression, and production/post-deployment checks, where appropriate.
- Design scalable automation solutions that support parallel execution, distributed teams, large test suites, multiple products, browsers/devices, APIs, and environments.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve robust automation frameworks for UI and API testing., The position may require flexibility regarding working location, including travel to London and locations within the M25, with occasional travel to other UK sites.
Requirements
- Strong experience in designing, developing, and maintaining automation test frameworks for UI and API testing.
- Strong expertise in test automation frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Karate, Selenium, Serenity, Cucumber BDD, JUnit, TestNG, or similar technologies.
- Strong experience in developing automated test scripts using programming and Scripting languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, and TypeScript.
- Experience working on public sector projects.
- Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, Shift Left principles, and tools such as Jenkins, Git, or similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of Agile ways of working and the application of Shift Left testing principles throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication, stakeholder-management, and collaboration skills.
- An adaptable team player who can work effectively across multidisciplinary Agile teams.
- Experience in non-functional testing, including Performance, Security, and Accessibility testing.
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Certification in software testing or a related field.
