As a back-end developer, you’ll play a crucial role in building the foundation of our applications, ensuring robustness, security, and optimal performance. You will have experience designing, developing, and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that power dynamic, high-performance web applications. This position reports to the Software Development Manager.

The work locations are our regional HQ in Antwerp and our site in Herentals (Antwerp area, Belgium), depending on the business needs, with a hybrid work scheme in place., * Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure RESTful APIs that interface with front-end systems and third-party services.

  • Work with databases to store and retrieve application data. This includes designing and managing SQL or NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL).
  • Implement server-side logic and architecture to power web applications, ensuring high performance and scalability.
  • Integrate 3rd party services, APIs, and external data sources with the backend architecture.
  • Optimize the backend code for maximum speed and scalability. Ensure the codebase is efficient, maintainable, and able to handle large volumes of data.
  • Work closely with front-end developers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-quality solutions and ensure the backend supports the needs of the front end.
  • Debug and resolve issues that arise in production environments.

Requirements

  • Proven experience of at least 5-8 years as a Back-End Developer or in a similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in C#/.NET (dotNET), ASP.NET and REST APIs
  • Experience with web frameworks.
  • Experience with microservices or distributed backend architecture and serverless frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with databases: SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of cloud native solutions, ideally Azure, and of cloud-based services.
  • Familiarity with version control systems.
  • Understanding of API development and integration.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence).
  • Strong ability to break down complex problems into manageable solutions and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Ensuring that the code and solutions are precise, optimized, and well-documented.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively with front-end developers, designers, and product managers.
  • Stay up to date with new technologies, frameworks, and tools to continuously enhance the backend systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear communication, both written and verbal, especially when collaborating with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluent proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in PHP and Laravel.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes and containerized applications.
  • Familiarity with containerization and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with container orchestration tools.
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Knowledge of automated testing and test-driven development (TDD).
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and tools.
  • Knowledge of graph databases.
