Job description
Working under the direction of the Infrastructure and Environments Manager, the Infrastructure Team Leader leads the operation, support, monitoring, security and continuous development of the College’s core IT infrastructure - its servers and virtualisation platforms, storage and backup, networks, wireless, communications platforms, identity and access services, and the datacentre environments that underpin end-user computing and digital services across all campuses. As an experienced leader of a highly technical team, the post holder combines strong people leadership with deep, current knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure, acting as the senior technical authority and escalation point for the Infrastructure team., 1. Direct the operational activities of the Infrastructure team, ensuring these align with the strategic direction of the Digital Service and agreed service levels.
- Provide the Infrastructure team with clear direction, objective setting, performance management, motivation and professional development.
- Lead the design, implementation, operation, support and monitoring of the College’s server, virtualisation, virtual desktop, storage, backup, network, wireless, cloud and communications infrastructure across all campuses.
- Maintain, monitor and continually improve the cyber-security posture of College infrastructure - including firewalling and network segmentation, identity and access management, endpoint protection, and security logging and monitoring - as well as its physical security, working with the wider Digital Service and external security partners (e.g. Jisc).
- Support the secure adoption, configuration and operation of cloud and Microsoft 365 platform and identity services (e.g. Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and Intune), in collaboration with colleagues across the Digital function
Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent (SCQF Level 9) in a relevant discipline, or equivalent recent experience in a similar role
- Recent evidence of continuing professional development
- Proven experience leading and developing a technical team in a fast-moving environment

Proven experience in a supervisory or management position Desirable:
- Relevant professional certification, e.g. ITIL 4, PRINCE2, Microsoft, Cisco or Palo Alto, or equivalent
- IOSH Working Safely certification
- Experience working in an IT role within the FE / HE sector
- Project management experience Skills and Attributes Essential: · Comprehensive IT skills, including common software packages · Strong team-working, team-building and people-leadership skills · Ability to diagnose hardware and software faults quickly and accurately · Pleasant, approachable manner and good interpersonal skills · Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-skilled team
