Microsoft Exchange & Email Security Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Microsoft Exchange & Email Security Engineer to support and enhance a large-scale enterprise messaging and email security environment.

This role will be responsible for administering and securing Microsoft Exchange infrastructure, supporting cloud modernization and migration initiatives, and managing enterprise email security technologies. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Exchange Server, Exchange Online, hybrid Exchange environments, Microsoft 365, and Proofpoint, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex messaging and security issues. This position combines day-to-day operational support with strategic infrastructure and cloud migration projects., * Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft Exchange Server and Exchange Online environments.

• Manage and support hybrid Exchange deployments and associated Microsoft 365/cloud services.
• Maintain and support enterprise email security platforms, including Proofpoint.
• Utilize Proofpoint TRAP (Targeted Attack Protection) to identify, investigate, and remediate malicious email threats after delivery.
• Troubleshoot complex mail flow, messaging, security, and email delivery issues.
• Respond to messaging and email security incidents, service requests, and escalations.
• Support enterprise messaging modernization and cloud migration initiatives, including:

oDecommissioning legacy Exchange infrastructure. oMigrating service accounts, mailboxes, and messaging resources to cloud-based platforms. oSupporting the retirement and replacement of solutions dependent on Exchange Web Services (EWS).

• Partner with infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, and application teams to improve messaging reliability, security, and performance.
• Assist with the development and implementation of email security best practices and operational standards.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, configurations, procedures, and operational processes.
• Balance ongoing production support responsibilities with larger infrastructure, security, and migration projects., * The position may initially offer remote flexibility; however, candidates should be located within commuting distance of Richmond, VA and comfortable working on-site as business needs require.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and successfully complete applicable background screening and compliance requirements.

• Several years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft Exchange environments in a large enterprise setting.
• Advanced experience with:

oMicrosoft Exchange Server oExchange Online oHybrid Exchange environments oMicrosoft 365 messaging services

• Experience administering enterprise email security platforms, preferably Proofpoint.
• Hands-on experience with Proofpoint TRAP or comparable email threat detection and remediation technologies.
• Strong understanding of email and messaging security, including:

oPhishing protection oMalware detection and remediation oMessage hygiene oSecure mail flow oEmail threat investigation and response

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex Exchange, mail flow, and email security issues.
• Experience supporting highly available, large-scale enterprise messaging environments.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and technical documentation skills., * Experience supporting enterprise cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
• Experience transitioning organizations from on-premises Exchange environments to cloud-first or cloud-only architectures.
• Strong familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration and related messaging technologies.
• Experience supporting security-focused infrastructure projects, compliance initiatives, or regulated enterprise environments.
• Experience decommissioning legacy Exchange infrastructure and migrating service accounts and applications away from legacy messaging dependencies.

Salary: $50 - $60 per hour
