Job description

Seeking an Operating Systems Patching Specialist to support ongoing server patching and compliance initiatives across a virtualized infrastructure. This is an operational infrastructure role focused on server patching and compliance, not a cybersecurity position. This role is responsible for planning, deploying, validating, and documenting operating system updates on Windows and Linux servers to ensure system stability, reliability, and patch compliance. This is a hands-on infrastructure role focused on server administration, patch deployment, automation, and operational support. The ideal candidate will have experience managing large-scale patching activities, coordinating maintenance windows, and utilizing scripting to automate repetitive tasks., * Deploy and validate operating system patches across Windows and Linux server environments.

  • Schedule and coordinate patching activities with internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Execute server reboots, validate successful patch installation, and confirm system availability following maintenance.
  • Utilize patch management tools such as NinjaOne or similar platforms to automate and monitor patch deployment activities.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell, Bash, or other automation scripts to streamline patching processes.
  • Test patches in non-production environments when necessary to ensure compatibility and minimize disruption.
  • Monitor patch compliance reporting and assist in bringing systems into compliance with organizational standards.
  • Troubleshoot patch deployment failures and resolve operating system update issues.
  • Document patching procedures, maintenance activities, and deployment outcomes.
  • Support recurring monthly patch cycles, including Microsoft Patch Tuesday activities.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure operations, server support, or patch management.
  • Experience deploying operating system patches within Windows Server and/or Linux environments.
  • Hands-on experience with NinjaOne or comparable patch management, endpoint management, or systems management platforms.
  • Experience supporting virtualized server environments (VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud-hosted virtual machines).
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Bash, or similar technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operating system issues related to patch deployment and server maintenance.
  • Familiarity with change management processes and maintenance window coordination.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with internal stakeholders.
  • Experience managing patch compliance across large server environments.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server administration and common Linux distributions such as Red Hat, Ubuntu, or CentOS.
  • Experience automating patch deployment and reporting processes.
  • Ability to support patching activities outside normal business hours when required to ensure successful completion.
