Job description

Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a SMT Field Service Engineer to join our team in field-based role.In this role, you will provide field service support across the Midwestern to Northeastern territory including Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. You will be responsible for installation, preventative maintenance, and unscheduled repair of Yamaha S.M.T. equipment at customer facilities throughout the United States and internationally. Field Service Engineers (FSEs) will support and maintain a wide range of subsystems, including electronic, electrical, electromagnetic, mechanical, pneumatic, and vacuum systems. Responsibilities also include software installation and upgrades, LAN connectivity, barcode systems, and assisting with programming and component library creation.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide phone, email, and onsite support to YMUS Robotics distributors and direct customers to resolve equipment, application, and sales-related issues.
  • Directly support customers by providing installation, warranty service, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Communicate with factory engineering to improve products and eliminate recurring issues.
  • Communicate any customer issues that could affect the overall relationship to management.
  • Communicate with the Sales staff regarding future opportunities at existing customer sites.
  • Document technical issues accurately and professionally to ensure they can be clearly understood and tracked by YMC Engineering and YMUS Technical Support.
  • Track customer issues to ensure a satisfactory resolution is provided and to support the development of training materials or the prevention of future issues.
  • Acquire the knowledge necessary to act as the Subject Matter Expert for both internal and external customers.
  • Provide support for customer demonstrations conducted at YMUS Robotics.
  • Set up and remove equipment from the demonstration facility as required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or two-year technical degree in Electronics, Electromechanical Systems, or a related field preferred; 5 years of relevant SMT experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
  • 3+ years of SMT experience required, including hands-on work with programming and operating pick-and-place equipment.
  • Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in electronics, mechanical systems, and computer technology.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and develop long-term solutions for recurring service challenges at customer sites.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and using a variety of test equipment, along with performing electronic-related mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and basic emergency service on designated equipment.
  • Ability to travel 60%-80%, including international travel, with occasional overtime as required.
