Senior Infrastructure Platform Engineer - Veeam / VMware / Hyper-V

Are you an experienced infrastructure specialist with very strong Veeam expertise and a solid background in VMware and Hyper-V?

Working remotely for an established and growing technology business near Cardiff that needs a hands-on infrastructure expert to build, manage and improve its backup and platform infrastructure.

As a remote Senior Infrastructure Platform Engineer, you’ll take ownership of the Veeam environment while supporting resilient infrastructure across VMware and Hyper-V estates.

This is not an Azure DevOps role and it is not a cloud-only position. It is a hands-on infrastructure role focused on platform operations, backup, recovery, virtualisation and resilience.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Infrastructure Platform Engineer, you will:

·Build, manage and optimise the Veeam Backup & Replication platform.

·Own backup, recovery, replication and disaster recovery processes across the infrastructure estate.

·Act as the senior technical escalation point for Veeam, VMware, Hyper-V and wider infrastructure issues.

·Lead technical investigations and major incident recovery, particularly around backup, restore and platform availability.

• Drive automation to reduce manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
• Develop and maintain monitoring, observability and alerting using tools such as Grafana.
• Coordinate the day-to-day priorities of the Platform Engineering team.
• Maintain engineering standards, documentation and operational procedures.
• Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations, platform optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of new platform capabilities.
• Help deliver highly resilient, reliable infrastructure supporting business-critical services.

Essential

·Strong commercial experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, Platform Engineer, Infrastructure Platform Engineer, Senior Infrastructure Engineer or similar.

·Very strong hands-on Veeam Backup & Replication experience, including backup jobs, replication, recovery testing, troubleshooting and platform administration.

·Excellent VMware vSphere / ESXi administration experience.

·Strong Hyper-V administration experience.

·Clear background in on-premises or hybrid infrastructure environments, rather than a purely cloud-based or Azure DevOps-focused role.

• Experience supporting highly available production infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across enterprise infrastructure.
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Grafana.
• Experience automating operational tasks using PowerShell, scripting or similar technologies.
• Excellent understanding of backup, disaster recovery and platform resilience.
• Ability to coordinate technical workloads and mentor engineers within a collaborative team.

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous but is not essential:

·Workflow automation tools such as n8n

·Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

·ITIL environments

·Managed Service Provider (MSP) experience

·Customer onboarding and service transition
