Job description

We are seeking an outstanding, enthusiastic and forward-thinking educator to join LGS as Head of Computing. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a successful department and play a key role in shaping the future direction of Computing and Computer Science across the School., The successful candidate will be subject to appropriate pre-employment safeguarding checks, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, verification of references, right to work checks and any other checks required for the role and in accordance with current legislation and statutory guidance.

Requirements

This position would suit either an experienced Head of Department seeking a new challenge or an ambitious and talented Computing teacher ready to take the next step into leadership. The successful candidate will inspire pupils aged 10-18, fostering a passion for Computing while maintaining the high standards and strong outcomes for which the Department is known.

The successful applicant will be an inspirational classroom practitioner with excellent subject knowledge and a clear commitment to delivering outstanding teaching and learning at all key stages. They will be expected to teach Computing and Computer Science up to and including A Level and to lead the continued development of a dynamic and engaging curriculum.

We are looking for a candidate with strong organisational and communication skills, a passion for innovation and a commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience. They will possess the ability to lead, motivate and inspire pupils and promote high expectations and academic excellence.

Applicants should have strong practical programming expertise, including proficiency in Python and experience of teaching programming to A Level standard. Knowledge of object-oriented programming, SQL and functional programming concepts is essential. Experience of additional languages and technologies such as C#, Java, PHP or Visual Basic would be advantageous, alongside an interest in emerging areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
