This is a hands-on Senior Engineering role working on large-scale, business-critical systems, within an organisation that genuinely values engineering craft, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Agile and XP practices are Embedded across the engineering function, with a strong focus on TDD, pairing, continuous integration and shared ownership.
You’ll join a cross-functional Scrum team alongside Product Managers, UX Designers, Test Analysts and fellow Engineers, taking ownership of features from initial idea through to production.
At Senior level, you’ll also play an important role in mentoring other Developers, sharing knowledge and raising engineering standards across the team.
You’ll be encouraged to challenge existing approaches, contribute ideas and have a genuine influence on both technical direction and how the team works. What They’re Looking For
They’re looking for an experienced Java Engineer who combines strong technical ability with a collaborative approach to software development.
You’ll ideally:
- Have strong commercial Java development experience
- Be comfortable delivering complex features end-to-end
- Care about clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Have experience with, or a genuine interest in, TDD and XP practices
- Enjoy pairing, mentoring and sharing knowledge with other Engineers
- Be comfortable contributing to technical discussions and challenging existing approaches
- Have experience working within collaborative Agile engineering teams
You don’t need to tick every box across the wider technology stack. Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to pick up new technologies are more important. Tech Stack & Environment
The core platform is Java-based, supported by a modern and evolving stack:
- Java (JDK 17), Spring Boot
- React, TypeScript
- AWS, including serverless approaches
- Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes
- Chef, Vagrant, Packer
- CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling
Bonus points for experience with:
- Cloud-native or serverless architectures
- AWS
- DevOps and Infrastructure as Code
- Building scalable, secure platforms
