Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced, customer-focused Senior IT Technician to join their team. This is a varied role that blends advanced service desk support with hands-on project delivery - you’ll be the escalation point for complex technical issues while also planning and delivering infrastructure projects, system deployments, and technology upgrades directly at customer sites.

If you thrive on solving tricky problems, enjoy building genuine relationships with customers, and want a role where no two days look the same, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing 2nd and 3rd line technical support across telephone, remote access, email, and ticketing systems
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex IT incidents, acting as the go-to escalation point for 1st line technicians and apprentices
  • Planning and delivering customer infrastructure projects end-to-end - from initial scoping through to handover
  • Installing and supporting Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, and Hyper-V environments, plus networking, firewalls, Wi-Fi, backup, and cyber security solutions
  • Carrying out site surveys, migrations, upgrades, and technical assessments
  • Building strong customer relationships and acting as a trusted technical advisor
  • Mentoring junior engineers and apprentices, and championing best practice across the team

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in an MSP or customer-facing IT support environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, and Windows Server
  • Solid experience with networking, firewalls, backup, and disaster recovery
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organisational skills
  • A full UK driving licence

Nice to Have

  • Microsoft certifications
  • Experience with Watchguard, HP, Threatlocker or Huntress
  • ITIL Foundation certification
  • Familiarity with ConnectWise Manage / Asio

You Are

Customer-focused, highly organised, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities without losing sight of the details.

You take pride in doing things properly - from ticket notes to project documentation - and you enjoy sharing what you know with less experienced colleagues.

Benefits & conditions

Barnsley Based (with travel to customer sites) Full-Time, Permanent 37.5 hrs/week , £38,000 - £42,000 pa depending on experience
