Technical Development Lead - AWS / Cloud Engineering

This isn’t a traditional Development Manager role, nor are we looking for a high-level Architect removed from the engineering. We are looking for someone who can provide technical direction while remaining close enough to the technology to work through problems with developers, challenge existing approaches and introduce new ideas., * Providing hands-on technical leadership across a team of software/cloud engineers.

• Helping design and develop scalable solutions within a complex AWS environment.
• Supporting and unblocking developers when they encounter difficult technical problems.
• Driving modern engineering practices across CI/CD, containerisation, microservices and automation.
• Working through complex cloud integration and connectivity challenges.
• Challenging existing technical approaches and identifying better ways of solving problems.
• Helping accelerate the move away from traditional development approaches towards faster, iterative software delivery.
• Exploring emerging technologies and identifying where they can provide genuine business and engineering value.
• Supporting the programme’s growing use of AI-assisted and agentic development technologies.
• Communicating technical concepts effectively across engineering teams, technology stakeholders and senior business leadership.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone with deep cloud and software engineering expertise who still enjoys getting into the detail, solving difficult technical problems and exploring how new technologies can be used to build better solutions., * Strong hands-on background in Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering or DevOps.

• Deep practical knowledge of AWS and the wider AWS technology ecosystem.
• Strong experience with containers/microservices and CI/CD.
• Experience designing and delivering solutions within complex cloud environments.
• Strong software engineering capability - Python experience would be particularly relevant, although broader/polyglot development experience is welcomed.
• Experience technically leading, mentoring and supporting other engineers without moving away from hands-on technology.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to challenge technical decisions where appropriate.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively with both highly technical teams and senior stakeholders.
• Most importantly, a genuine enthusiasm and curiosity for technology - someone who naturally keeps up with emerging tools and engineering approaches, experiments with new ideas and is interested in continually improving how technology is built and delivered.

Desirable

• React experience.
• Kubernetes/container orchestration.
• Infrastructure as Code, e.g. Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Developer platform/tooling experience.
• Exposure to Generative AI, agentic development or AI-assisted software engineering.
• Experience introducing new engineering standards, technologies or development practices.

Financial Services experience is not required. We are particularly interested in strong technologists from cloud, SaaS, technology consultancy, digital product, gaming or other engineering-led environments.

• Approx £600-£750 per day (inside IR35)
• Initial contract with likelihood of extension throughout 2027 and potentially beyond
• UK based - flexible hybrid working, we are open to candidates based anywhere within the UK.
