Job description
- Administer and maintain enterprise server environments (Windows and Linux), including physical and virtual systems
- Manage server lifecycle: provisioning, configuration, performance tuning, patching, and decommissioning
- Oversee Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and identity infrastructure
- Monitor server health, capacity, and performance; proactively address risks and inefficiencies
- Maintain system baselines, gold images, and configuration standards
- Ensure high availability through clustering, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
Patch Management & Vulnerability Remediation (Core Responsibility)
- Own end-to-end patch management process across servers, operating systems, and infrastructure platforms
- Evaluate, test, and deploy patches in accordance with change management processes
- Prioritize remediation based on vulnerability severity, exploitability, and business impact
- Track and report patch compliance metrics and risk posture to leadership
- Coordinate downtime windows with application owners and business stakeholders
- Utilize patching and vulnerability tools (e.g., SCCM, WSUS, Qualys, Tenable) to maintain system integrity
Cybersecurity Responsibilities
- Harden servers and systems in alignment with best practices and frameworks such as NIST and CIS benchmarks
- Support vulnerability scanning, incident response, and forensic investigations as needed
- Implement and maintain endpoint protection, logging, and monitoring solutions
- Enforce least privilege access, system segmentation, and secure configuration standards
- Partner with security teams to remediate threats and close control gaps
Network Engineering (Secondary Responsibility)
- Support core network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, and VPN connectivity
- Assist in troubleshooting network performance issues impacting server and application availability
- Maintain secure network configurations and segmentation to support server environments
- Collaborate with network teams on capacity planning and infrastructure upgrades, Position Summary The Network # Server Engineer is responsible for the administration, security, and lifecycle management of the organization#s server infrastructure, while also supporting network operations and cybersecurity initiatives. This role places primary emphasis on server management, system hardening, and patch governance, ensuring that all infrastructure remains secure, compliant, and highly available. The engineer plays a critical role in reducing operational and cyber risk through disciplined patching, vulnerability remediation, and system reliability practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in server/infrastructure engineering roles
- Strong expertise in Windows Server environments; experience with Linux systems preferred
- Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Demonstrated experience managing enterprise patching and vulnerability remediation programs
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls), * Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, CCNP, or CISSP certifications
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, HIPAA environments)
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS) and hybrid server environments
- Experience with scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python) for patching and system management, * Deep ownership of server environments and infrastructure stability
- Strong risk-based decision making, especially in patch prioritization
- Ability to balance uptime, performance, and security requirements
- Attention to detail in system configuration, documentation, and compliance tracking
- Effective collaboration across infrastructure, security, and application teams, * Participation in on-call rotation for infrastructure and security incidents
- Scheduled off-hours maintenance windows for patching and upgrades
- Hybrid/on-site depending on organizational needs
