Job description

job summary: Seeking a Principal Embedded DSP Engineer for a high growth DoW contractor in the Frederick, MD area. Paid relocation will be offered!

The Principal Embedded DSP Engineer would be responsible for designing, coding, and implementing physical layer communications and signal processing algorithms for hardware. Experience with Waveform Engineering, FPGA-based DSP and/or CPU-based DSP is highly desired.

responsibilities:

  • Design Signal Algorithms: Model baseband/RF waveforms, modulation, and FIR/IIR filters using MATLAB or Python
  • Convert to Hardware Code: Translate prototypes into optimized, real-time C/C++, VHDL, or Verilog for FPGAs, SDRs, and embedded targets.
  • Integrate with Hardware: Partner with RF/hardware teams to interface DSP logic directly with ADCs, DACs, and RF front-ends.
  • Optimize Performance: Profile code to minimize latency, power draw, and memory usage under strict real-time constraints.
  • Validate & Analyze Signals: Conduct spectral analysis and automated testing to evaluate performance against noise, fading, and interference.
  • Debug on Bench Setup: Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers to troubleshoot live hardware integration issues.
  • Guide Technical Strategy: Own system-level DSP architecture decisions and mentor junior engineers through code/HDL reviews.
