Job description
Our client is seeking a Senior Design Lead to support the design and modernization of digital services in the public-sector environment. The successful candidate will lead human-centered design activities from user research and discovery through prototyping, usability testing, and implementation. This role will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, business analysts, developers, and end users to create intuitive, accessible, and scalable solutions. Key Responsibilities Lead UX/UI and service design activities throughout the product development lifecycle. Conduct user research, stakeholder interviews, contextual inquiries, workflow analysis, and usability testing. Translate user and business needs into user flows, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs. Develop personas, journey maps, service blueprints, storyboards, process maps, and task flows. Plan and facilitate design-thinking workshops, discovery sessions, co-design activities, and stakeholder working sessions. Identify user pain points, process gaps, accessibility issues, and opportunities for service improvement. Design and validate responsive web experiences using tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar platforms. Collaborate with front-end developers to build responsive interfaces using Bootstrap, Angular, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Help define reusable UI components, design patterns, navigation models, and design-system standards. Ensure solutions meet usability, accessibility, and responsive-design requirements, including Section 508 and WCAG guidelines. Partner with Agile teams during backlog refinement, sprint planning, demonstrations, user acceptance testing, and implementation. Review developed features to confirm that the final product aligns with approved UX designs and user requirements. Present research findings, design recommendations, prototypes, and future-state experiences to technical and executive stakeholders. Support implementation planning, change-management activities, training materials, and user adoption initiatives. Track design outcomes and use user feedback and performance metrics to support continuous improvement. Requirements
Experience: 8+ years of overall IT experience; 5+ years of UX/UI or service design experience Position Overview, Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field. 8+ years of overall experience in information technology. 5+ years of professional experience in UX design, UI design, user research, human-centered design, service design, or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience leading UX or human-centered design efforts for enterprise applications or digital services. Experience planning and facilitating design workshops and collaborative discovery sessions. Strong experience conducting user research, usability testing, stakeholder interviews, and requirements validation. Proficiency in creating personas, journey maps, service blueprints, wireframes, prototypes, and user flows. Experience with responsive web design and front-end technologies such as Bootstrap, Angular, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience working with design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Miro, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar platforms. Strong understanding of information architecture, interaction design, visual design, design systems, and usability principles. Knowledge of accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG. Experience working in Agile or Scrum development environments. Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting federal, state, local government, healthcare, or other regulated environments. Experience designing complex workflows, case-management systems, portals, or public-facing services. Familiarity with government digital-service standards and accessibility compliance. Experience collaborating with product owners, business analysts, developers, content strategists, and project managers. An online portfolio demonstrating UX/UI, service design, research, and prototyping work.
