Job description

Kforce has a client in Norwalk, CT that is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who will work across engineering, product, analytics, and operations to architect durable serverless systems, develop clean and reliable Python services, and power mission-critical workflows such as claims processing, eligibility ingestion, episode creation, provider search, and care coordination.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and build large-scale, resilient serverless systems using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, and Kafka
  • Architect fault-tolerant workflows supporting core healthcare operations
  • Develop backend APIs for both member-facing and partner-integrated applications
  • Write high-quality, test-driven Python services with a focus on reliability and maintainability
  • Implement secure, compliant data flows aligned with healthcare privacy standards
  • Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics to ensure accuracy and consistency of healthcare data
  • Own services end-to-end through design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, IaC, and observability dashboards
  • Improve reliability with automated rollbacks, canary deployments, alarms, and well-designed SLOs
  • Lead cross-functional discussions and propose long-term scalable solutions
  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to engineering culture and technical standards

Requirements

  • 7+ years of backend engineering experience with production-grade systems
  • Expert-level experience with AWS serverless technologies and event-driven design
  • Strong Python fundamentals including TDD, clean architecture, and modular code
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and observability
  • Experience building B2C and B2B platforms serving high-volume data and transactions
  • Proficiency with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RDS, caching, and schema design
  • Strong background in building scalable RESTful APIs
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, IaC, automated pipelines, and cross-team collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills and an ownership-driven mindset
  • Bonus: experience with healthcare EDI (837/834), claims processing, HIPAA, or payer systems

Why This Role Matters Backend services power every stage of the healthcare journey. Your work will help ensure accurate claims, reliable workflows, predictable episodes of care, and better outcomes for members.
