Job description

The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position leads technical execution aligned with strategic roadmaps, applies cloud-native architecture principles, and integrates AI/ML solutions to enhance platform performance. The role involves mentoring engineers, influencing architectural decisions, and collaborating across teams to solve complex problems. A strong focus on innovation, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement ensures high-quality, secure, and maintainable software solutions that support business objectives., The Pre Purchase Experience Platform team at Walmart delivers a seamless shopping experience to millions globally. The Tango team, a vital part of this platform, builds and scales core data infrastructure supporting shelving and expanding Tango capabilities across retail operations. Central to their work is Ironbank, a high-performance data service layer providing reliable access to shelving and taxonomy data. Tango operates at the intersection of platform engineering and retail impact, focusing on data reliability, service modernization, and advancing Walmart’s omnichannel goals through innovative solutions and robust platform design.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure quality and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features using multiple programming languages.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong software development skills across the full lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML integration using languages such as Python, Java, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to conduct system design reviews and apply software design patterns ensuring secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions for long-term sustainability.
  • Proficient in data-driven decision making and debugging to optimize engineering processes and product quality., Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
