Job description
As Head of Data Center Commissioning at Giga, you own that outcome across our entire portfolio of AI data center infrastructure and development, not one building at a time. You’ll build and lead the commissioning function - setting the standards, staffing the team, and running the program that ensures every facility we deliver passes from construction to live operation without surprises. You’ll manage a team of Cx Leads and Managers across simultaneous projects, sit across the table from ownership and executive stakeholders, and make the call on how commissioning gets resourced, sequenced, and executed company-wide. If you want to define how an AI infrastructure company commissions at scale, this is your seat., * Build and own Giga’s commissioning program - standards, procedures, templates, and quality bar - applied consistently across all active projects
- Lead and develop a team of Cx Leads and Managers, assigning coverage across the portfolio and stepping in directly on the highest-risk or highest-complexity projects
- Own the commissioning schedule and resourcing strategy across multiple simultaneous data center builds, coordinating with construction and project leadership to protect turnover milestones
- Serve as the primary point of accountability to ownership and executive stakeholders for commissioning status, risk, and readiness across the portfolio
- Set and enforce standards for commissioning plans, FPTs, and IST procedures in alignment with OPR and BOD across all projects, ensuring consistency regardless of which team executes them
- Own vendor and Cx subcontractor strategy - selection, contracting, and performance management - across the portfolio rather than project by project
- Establish and maintain the deficiency tracking and Cx record-keeping standard used across all sites, ensuring a clean, auditable handoff package on every project
- Report on commissioning progress, risk, and budget to executive leadership, translating field-level issues into program-level decisions
- Own the commissioning budget across active projects and make trade-off calls on resourcing, tooling, and staffing
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in commissioning, with 5+ years managing or leading a team of Cx professionals across multiple concurrent projects
- Demonstrated experience commissioning mission-critical, data center, or large-scale industrial facilities at a program or portfolio level, not just single-project execution
- Track record building or significantly scaling a commissioning function, standard, or team from the ground up
- Deep working knowledge of MEP and electrical systems - generators, UPS, switchgear, cooling infrastructure, BMS/controls - sufficient to set standards and adjudicate technical disputes
- Experience managing commissioning budgets and vendor/subcontractor relationships across multiple simultaneous projects
- Strong track record presenting to and advising executive or ownership-level stakeholders on program risk and status
- Ability to read and interpret single-line electrical diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and controls sequences of operation.
Bonus points
- Direct experience building the commissioning function at a hyperscale or colocation data center company
- Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), BCxA accreditation, or equivalent certification
- Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, or commissioning-specific platforms (e.g., Cx Alloy, FACTSuite) at a program-administration level
- Experience scaling a construction or commissioning function inside a high-growth or startup environment
Benefits & conditions
- Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
- Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
- 401(k) with 4% employer match
- Unlimited PTO
- Parental leave
- Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Commuter benefits, where applicable
- Opportunities to collaborate in person at periodic team and company on-sites
