Job description

We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Core Product Engineering team, which powers the document workflows millions of people rely on every day: viewing, editing, embedding, and exporting content, along with the integrations that connect Scribe to the rest of a customer’s stack. You’ll ship well-scoped backend work across these core systems, building technical judgment alongside an experienced team while contributing to both existing product surfaces and new, greenfield projects., * Build and ship backend features in our Django monolith, spanning core document workflows (viewing, editing, embeds, exports) as well as new greenfield projects that expand what Scribe can do

  • Improve performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers in well-scoped areas
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive and reliable experiences at scale
  • Incorporate feedback from teammates to continuously grow your craft
  • Write thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and pay attention to observability and performance in your work

Requirements

  • You have 3+ years of experience building backend applications
  • You have solid experience with Python
  • You can optimize endpoint performance and database queries in code you own
  • You’re a strong advocate for automated testing
  • You’re familiar with engineering best practices and eager to deepen them
  • You’re user-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work

Nice to have

  • Experience with Django (not required, but a big plus)
  • Startup experience (not required, but we build and move fast!)
