Job description
Job Summary: Why the role exists To define, build and implement DevOps practise within the IT Technology team. Working alongside development and IT Technical teams will lead and support the transition of on-premise software services to public cloud (Microsoft Azure) and adoption of platform-as-a-service (PaaS) components, such as DynaTrace and ServiceNow. To work with third party service integrators to ensure ongoing monitoring, maintenance and fitness-for-purpose of public cloud subscriptions and tenants and retrospectively champion the adoption of cloud-based monitoring platforms., The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for the definition, implementation and ongoing management of all public cloud services. Working with other IT professionals, will shape the future technology deployment of IT services to make use of Microsoft Azure alongside the current on-premise services., 1. Defining a cloud migration strategy and best practise
- Working alongside development and engineering teams identify candidate to migration from private to public cloud
- Create and maintain automation routines, automated remediation and incident response.
- Define Continuous Integration pipelines
- Work alongside development teams to deliver cloud solutions
- Manage and maintain ongoing deployment of services to consume public cloud environments.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities: The main end results required of the role Responsible for: o Assessing, recommending and embedding the most appropriate toolsets to support automation and public cloud adoption o Defining, documenting and monitoring agreed practises and approached to utilising public cloud services o Establish the foundations of a new strategic public cloud architecture to best practise o Implementing policy and control to ensure standards are adhered to o Implementing public cloud services to meet the business needs and technology objectives of new initiatives o Cost management and budget controls o Security score and recommended improvements alongside InfoSec team o Embed existing PaaS solutions, educating across the wider IT technology teams
Contribute on: o New technology initiatives as part of a public-cloud-first approach o Ongoing strategic discussion with service integrators as the public cloud strategy matures and develops o Major incidents relating directly or indirectly to public cloud services, including out of office hours o Work with third party license providers (Microsoft CSP) to optimise costs of public cloud platforms, taking advantage of committed spend, hybrid use policies, etc.
Develop dashboard to demonstrate security, policy and cost control Document all controls, processes and procedures applicable to the operation of public cloud platforms Liaise with broader IT teams to offer support, troubleshooting and investigation Key Relationships: The relationships the role must build for success
Service Integrators & IT partners (Datacentre and managed service partners) License partners, specifically Microsoft CSP IT Technology teams - developers, TechOps, data services, application management IT Solutions Architecture team Project/Programme Managers Budget Responsibility: Include direct and indirect budget management Subscription cost management within set limits Define and implement cost caps and budgets with platform Negotiate and deploy most cost-effective license model for consumed products and services Estimation and projection
Requirements
Include qualifications (essential/desirable), technical expertise and specific business knowledge required to perform the role Essential - Technical background of software development and/or infrastructure services Essential - Experience of building and deploying services into Microsoft Azure Essential - Demonstrates strong Scripting and automation skills Essential - Broad understanding of Azure platform services Essential - Experience working with enterprise service integrators Essential - Exposure to Kubernetes Essential - Demonstrate delivery of highly available public cloud deployments Desirable - Experience of other public cloud services, such as AWS/Google Cloud Desirable - Demonstrate the deployment of zero-touch end-to-end cloud deployments Desirable - Understanding of Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines & Infrastructure as Code Desirable - DynaTrace Desirable - ServiceNow Desirable - Ansible
Competencies: Microsoft Azure Scripting - Terraform, PowerShell, Python, YAML Kubernetes/Container-based services Firewalls, load balancing and networking Azure DevOps Understanding of licensing differences and options Ability to manage own workload. Experienced in working with a variety of competing priorities Awareness of Group Data Protection Regulations. Experience of working in a compliant and controlled environment. Good communication skills and the ability to report status to stakeholders.
