Job description

(Describe the main activities the job-holder will perform)

  1. Configuration and administration of IBM Z/OS mainframe network software.
  2. Configuration and administration of network related 3rd party system software.
  3. Provision of Level 3 technical support for Mainframe Networking issues during the normal working day. Also provision of out of hours on call support.
  4. Act as an SME both internally within the group and in relation to external teams for one or more of the products/protocols supported.
  5. Act as a lead Mainframe Networking resource for internal and external projects. For internal group projects this could also include acting as project manager.
  6. Act as a technical escalation point and informal mentor for more junior staff.
  7. Monitor the performance of mainframe networking components. Analyse issues and drive remedial action.
  8. Production of clear technical documentation as appropriate
  9. Compliance with all local, regional, global and regulatory policies, processes and procedures.

Requirements

Minimum 8+ years’ experience in a Mainframe Networking role.

Preferred would be a technician with knowledge of some of the following Mainframe Network products/protocols:

SNA, VTAM, TCP/IP, APPN/Enterprise Extender .

File transfer products - Connect/ Direct, FTPS, sftp etc.

Encryption via ATTLS, digital certificate handling, TN3270 client software ( HOD, PCOMM, Extra).

The MHSS Netsoft group engineers and supports Mainframe communication software and hardware. It works in collaboration with Z/OS, CICS, DB2, MQ Series, Websphere, Storage and Distributed groups, as well as with application development groups and Network Services groups globally.
