Job description
A leading healthcare technology organization is seeking a Chief Technology Officer to lead a large, distributed engineering organization responsible for mission-critical enterprise platforms. This is a hands-on technology leadership role for an executive who can establish strategy while remaining close enough to engineering and architecture to influence critical technical decisions, challenge conventional thinking, and drive execution.
The CTO will lead a 100+ person technology organization through the continued modernization of high-volume, data-intensive platforms. Key priorities include increasing software delivery velocity, evolving cloud and microservices architecture, accelerating practical adoption of AI, strengthening engineering practices, and building a technology organization capable of responding quickly to changing customer, market, and regulatory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead technology strategy and engineering execution across a large, geographically distributed organization.
- Drive modernization of complex, high-volume enterprise platforms and legacy applications.
- Increase software delivery velocity while improving platform quality, reliability, scalability, and operational performance.
- Establish architecture direction across cloud, microservices, APIs, data, integration, and distributed systems.
- Lead transformation across engineering, architecture, DevOps, quality engineering, and release management.
- Identify and implement practical AI opportunities across software development, testing, operations, client delivery, and internal workflows.
- Translate business, customer, and regulatory requirements into scalable technology strategies and roadmaps.
- Develop strong engineering leaders while maintaining the technical depth necessary to challenge architecture and delivery decisions.
- Lead globally distributed onshore and offshore engineering teams.
- Partner closely with product, operations, client-facing teams, and senior executives.
- Communicate technology strategy, investment priorities, delivery progress, and risk to executive stakeholders.
- Build a culture centered on curiosity, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and speed of execution.
Requirements
- Significant technology leadership experience as a CTO, Head of Engineering, SVP/VP Engineering, Chief Architect, or similar senior technology leader.
- Experience leading a large or highly complex software engineering organization.
- Strong technical foundation with continued credibility across software engineering and architecture.
- Demonstrated success modernizing complex legacy platforms into scalable modern architectures.
- Experience with high-volume transactional, data-intensive, or mission-critical enterprise systems.
- Strong understanding of modern application architecture, including Java or similar enterprise technologies, microservices, APIs, cloud, and distributed systems.
- Experience with AWS or comparable public cloud environments.
- Proven ability to improve engineering velocity, software quality, and overall delivery performance.
- Experience leading geographically distributed and offshore engineering organizations.
- Demonstrated understanding of AI and its practical application across engineering and business workflows.
- Experience operating in a regulated or highly complex technology environment.
- Strong executive communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to move between executive strategy and detailed technology discussions.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where leaders are expected to take ownership beyond narrowly defined responsibilities.
Preferred Background:
- Healthcare technology, healthtech, pharmacy technology, benefits administration, insurance technology, fintech, payments, or another transaction-intensive regulated industry.
- Experience with claims processing, transaction processing, adjudication, eligibility, benefits, payments, or comparable rules-driven platforms.
- Experience leading major cloud or platform transformation initiatives.
- Familiarity with healthcare technology standards or regulatory-driven platform changes.
- Experience managing engineering organizations of 100+ employees or comparable scale and complexity.
- Experience with AI development platforms and tools such as Claude or comparable generative AI technologies.
- Experience transforming engineering operating models across DevOps, CI/CD, QA, architecture, and release management.
