Job description

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience., UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking a professional level Advanced Linux Infrastructure Platform Engineer to join the Infrastructure & Communication Technology team within UFIT. Competitive candidates will be self-motivated, organized, and eager to learn with outstanding communication skills. You will lead medium to large projects and coordinate teams responsible for maintenance, installation, configuration, and deployment of enterprise-wide infrastructure and software systems. Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other employees dedicated and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspirational community. Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:

  • Linux Administration of Enterprise Applications
  • PeopleSoft maintenance and administration
  • Scripting and automation using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, etc.
  • Large scale Linux administration
  • Assist Linux Platform Team in architecture and implementation
  • Provide leadership, advice, and recommendations on enterprise systems administration and management technologies
  • Mentor and cultivate fellow talented staff members

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Preferred: The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience, and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Expertise in Installation, Architecture/Design, and Management of Enterprise Application Infrastructure in large-scale environments using on-premises and cloud deployments
  • Proficiency with automation, scripting, and configuration management systems such as: Puppet, Ansible, GitLab CI/CD, and Python
  • Ability to configure load balancer appliances, policies, and virtual server load balancing
  • Experience with large scale Linux System management with the ability to perform in-depth troubleshooting
  • Expertise with orchestration tools such as Terraform
  • Proficient with monitoring systems experience such as: Nagios, Zabbix
