Job description

As our Senior Software Engineer, you will help modernize the technology powering critical patient scheduling, order management, and patient access workflows. Sitting within R1’s Patient Experience organization, you will contribute to a portfolio of established healthcare applications while helping advance modernization initiatives across microservices, containerized infrastructure, and AI-assisted software development.

Every day you will build and enhance backend services, solve complex technical challenges within legacy systems, and partner cross-functionally to improve the scalability, reliability, and long-term health of platforms that support essential patient access experiences. To thrive in this role, you must be a hands-on engineer who enjoys learning new technologies, navigating ambiguity, and taking ownership of complex technical problems.

Here’s what you will experience working as a Senior Software Engineer:

  • Play a key role in modernizing healthcare applications by enhancing backend services and improving the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of core platforms.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives across microservices, containerization, Kubernetes adoption, and platform evolution supporting patient scheduling and order management solutions.
  • Partner with engineering, platform engineering, product, and support teams to deliver solutions that improve operational efficiency and platform capabilities.
  • Leverage modern development practices, including AI-assisted engineering tools, automation, CI/CD, and software modernization efforts to improve delivery quality and developer productivity.
  • Operate with meaningful ownership and autonomy while helping tackle complex modernization challenges across legacy applications that have evolved over many years.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building scalable applications using C#/.NET, object-oriented design principles, and modern software development practices.
  • Strong backend development experience with microservices, APIs, SQL-based applications, and distributed system design.
  • Experience building modern web applications using Angular or a similar JavaScript framework, with the ability to contribute across multiple layers of the application stack.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and application modernization efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, work effectively within legacy codebases, and succeed in regulated or enterprise-scale environments such as healthcare, finance, or similar compliance-driven industries.

For this US-based position, the base pay range is $101,100.00 - $206,802.61 per year . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
