Job description

Are you a mission-driven engineer who thrives on turning complex technical challenges into reality? As a Solutions Engineer, you will be responsible for developing cutting-edge technical solutions and providing critical analytical support for the Network Innovations U.S. Government (NIUSG) business unit. This is a high-impact, hands-on role based in our Frederick facility where you will directly build and integrate the hardware that supports our nation’s most vital initiatives. You will lead technical solution operations across land, maritime, and aviation vertical spaces, ensuring the successful implementation and effective operation of programs that support our nation’s most vital initiatives. Your engineering expertise directly enables mission success in the field., * Execute the successful and expeditious ideation, design, integration, documentation, and transition to low-rate initial production/productization handoff phases of custom solutions within NIUS as a senior-level subject matter expert,requiring no mentorship or daily supervision.

  • Deliver solutions including satellite, cellular/5G, and other RF architectures with end goals of providing, monitoring, and/or denying communications.
  • Identify technologies to implement architectures within cost and timeline constraints; prioritize ā€œoff-the-shelfā€ solutions whenever possible to minimize in-house custom designs.
  • Support all sales channels and contribute technical and cost volume inputs for proposals to meet NIUSG objectives by providing high-level technical architecture and process oversight.
  • Deliver high-quality project documentation, including wiring, power, signal flow, and control plane diagrams, bills of materials, and comprehensive build/activation/troubleshooting guides.
  • Work cooperatively with Operations, Engineering, Logistics, and senior leadership to overcome prototype limitations. Success is measured by achieving results and claiming ownership and pride in the final product.
  • Be prepared to travel globally to manage the technical aspects of installations, operations, and maintenance of customer equipment and networks.
  • Deliver customer feedback to management to improve solution quality and performance.
  • Maintain a consistent in-office presence to draw parts from inventory, integrate solutions in the shop/lab, and support logistics for packing and shipping.
  • Assist in other duties as reasonably assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven success designing and maintaining multi-orbit solutions (Starlink/Starshield, OneWeb, iDirect, ViaSat) and a strong understanding of RF monitoring or denial platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with SD-WAN enabled solutions (primarily Peplink/SpeedFusion) and integrating terrestrial 5G or private cellular components.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality project documentation and ā€œcontrol planeā€ diagrams that allow other teams to easily replicate and scale engineering designs.
  • Practical experience supporting U.S. Government programs, including familiarity with contract deliverables and technical process integration within a laboratory/shop environment.
  • A self-motivated, proactive engineer with 5+ years of experience capable of managing concurrent projects and tight deadlines independently, without the need for mentorship.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted passport for global travel (up to 25%) and a commitment to lifelong learning in a rapidly evolving technical landscape., * Must be a U.S. Citizen and have at a minimum a DoD (Department of Defense) Secret clearance or be willing and able to obtain a security clearance., * An ability to travel extensively (up to 25%) on a domestic and global basis.
  • Must possess a valid passport without restrictions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., * Do you currently possess an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance or higher?
  • How many years of experience do you have designing or maintaining multi-orbit satellite solutions (e.g., Starlink/Starshield, OneWeb, iDirect, or ViaSat)?
  • This position is 100% on-site in Frederick, MD, to support hardware integration and lab operations. Are you able to reliably commute to this location 5 days a week?

While standard hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the role requires flexibility for surge support and travel (domestic and international) for equipment demonstrations and sales support. The successful candidate should expect to be on-site 5 days a week, with occasional flexibility for remote work during heavy documentation or design phases. Field work may occasionally include harsh physical conditions., * Paid Time Off (PTO includes sick leave)
