Data Analyst

As the Data Analyst you will support the effective control, movement, and accuracy of fuel stock across the business. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data as well as stock, can identify and investigate discrepancies, and is confident using Excel to analyse information, monitor trends, and support better decision-making. A key aspect of the role is the ability to build strong working relationships across multiple areas/teams across the business, aid process improvement and operational projects.

Duties include:

• Check and process incoming stock accurately, ensuring quantities and product details match delivery notes, purchase orders, and system records.

• Maintain accurate stock records through regular updates, cycle counts, stocktakes, and investigation of variances.

• Use Excel to review stock movements, analyse discrepancies, identify trends, and prepare clear reports for managers and wider teams.

• Support stock replenishment by monitoring minimum and maximum levels, highlighting potential shortages, overstocks, or unusual usage patterns.

• Investigate and remedy stock issues and recommend practical corrective actions.

• Work closely with purchasing, operations, finance, sites, and customer-facing teams to resolve stock queries quickly and accurately.

• Help improve stock control processes by identifying inefficiencies, proposing improvements, and supporting implementation of better ways of working.

• Prepare and maintain stock reports, variance summaries, audit schedules, and other documentation as required.

• Problem solving: able to investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and take ownership of practical solutions.

• Analytical thinking: comfortable working with stock data, spotting patterns, questioning inconsistencies, and drawing useful conclusions.

• Numeracy: strong confidence with numbers, quantities, calculations, reconciliations, and accuracy checks.

• Excel skills: competent user of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting and filtering, lookups, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and data validation.

• Attention to detail: accurate and methodical when counting, recording, checking, and reporting stock information.

• Organisation: able to manage competing priorities, keep records up to date, and maintain spreadsheets accurately.

• Communication: able to explain stock issues clearly and work constructively with colleagues across departments.

• Initiative: proactive in identifying problems, identifying opportunities for process improvement, supporting change implementation, and escalating risks where appropriate.

• Previous experience in a stock, inventory, warehouse, retail, supply chain, or administrative role is desirable, but not essential as on the job training will be provided.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential.

• Good standard of numeracy and literacy is required.

• Experience supporting stocktakes, cycle counts, reconciliations, or inventory reporting would be useful.
