Job description

You’ll sit within a growing engineering organisation and work closely with senior technical leadership, taking ownership across the platform and infrastructure landscape.

The role is deliberately broad. You’ll be involved in architectural decisions, automation, reliability, developer tooling and the underlying infrastructure that allows product teams to move quickly and safely.

You’ll be expected to remain hands-on while also bringing the experience to challenge existing approaches, identify opportunities for improvement and help establish engineering standards as the organisation scales.

What you’ll be working on

  • Building and evolving the AWS platform that supports a growing production environment
  • Designing infrastructure and services that can scale as customer and data requirements increase
  • Improving the way engineering teams build, test, release and operate software
  • Creating automation that removes operational overhead and makes developers more productive
  • Establishing reusable patterns for infrastructure, deployment and service ownership
  • Working across compute, storage, databases, networking, messaging and serverless technologies
  • Helping design systems that remain reliable as complexity and scale increase
  • Investigating challenging production problems and finding long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes
  • Improving visibility across the platform through monitoring, logging and observability
  • Contributing to technical decisions around architecture, resilience, security and performance
  • Working closely with application engineers to make the relationship between development and infrastructure as frictionless as possible
  • Helping mentor engineers and raise the overall technical bar within the team

Requirements

They’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help shape the next generation of their platform. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering problems, has strong opinions on how good platforms should be built, and wants the opportunity to influence technical direction rather than simply work from a predefined roadmap., This role would suit an experienced engineer who has spent their career building real production platforms and distributed systems, rather than someone whose experience is limited to managing infrastructure.

You’ll likely have experience across a number of the following:

  • Strong commercial experience with AWS
  • A software engineering background, ideally with Go or C#
  • Designing and operating microservices or distributed applications
  • Infrastructure automation using tools such as Terraform
  • Containers and container orchestration, particularly Docker, ECS or Kubernetes
  • Building and improving CI/CD environments
  • Working with a mixture of SQL and NoSQL data stores
  • Designing systems around asynchronous processing, messaging and event-driven patterns
  • Experience with APIs, authentication, caching and serverless technologies
  • Understanding of networking and cloud security
  • Experience operating systems in production and dealing with reliability and performance challenges
  • A strong understanding of software architecture and engineering principles

We’re less interested in someone who can simply list every AWS service they’ve used and more interested in how you approach engineering problems., * Like having ownership rather than a narrowly defined remit

  • Enjoy working out how things should be built, not just implementing someone else’s design
  • Are comfortable moving between infrastructure and software engineering
  • Care about making other engineers more effective
  • Think about reliability and scalability before they become problems
  • Enjoy working with systems where there isn’t always an obvious answer
  • Can communicate technical ideas to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
  • Are comfortable challenging assumptions and suggesting better ways of doing things, * Multi-region environments
  • Designing for high availability and resilience
  • Azure or GCP
  • Elastic / Elasticsearch
  • MongoDB
  • Workflow orchestration
  • Advanced observability
  • Machine learning infrastructure
  • LLM or AI-related workloads
  • Building internal platforms or developer tooling

About the company

We’re working with a rapidly growing technology business that is entering an exciting new phase of its journey.

The company has developed a sophisticated, data-intensive technology platform used by organisations across multiple industries and international markets. Having successfully established its product in the market, the business is now scaling its engineering function to support significant growth in customers, data volumes and product capability., The business is growing quickly, entering new markets and dealing with increasingly demanding technical challenges. That creates a rare opportunity for a senior engineer to join while the platform is still evolving and have a meaningful influence on how it is built for the next stage of growth.

You’ll be joining an established technology business with the pace and ambition of a much earlier-stage company - working alongside talented engineers, solving interesting problems and having a visible impact on the product and the wider engineering organisation.

If you’re looking for a role where platform engineering is genuinely strategic, rather than simply keeping the lights on, I’d be keen to speak with you. #J-18808-Ljbffr
