Job description
We are seeking a technically capable, organised, and service-oriented Data Centre Coordinator / IT Engineer - Level 1 Desktop Support to support the day-to-day operations of our data centre and IT infrastructure. This role combines data centre coordination, infrastructure support, IT asset management, and first-line desktop support. You will act as a first point of contact for IT-related incidents, provide hands-on technical assistance to users, coordinate data centre activities, and maintain accurate documentation and asset records. The successful candidate will work closely with senior engineers, internal IT teams, and external vendors to ensure IT systems, equipment, connectivity, and end-user services operate effectively and reliably., Data Centre Coordination Coordinate day-to-day data centre operations and activities. Monitor data centre infrastructure, equipment, environmental conditions, and access requirements. Ensure servers, network equipment, racks, cabling, power systems, and related infrastructure are properly maintained and documented. Coordinate scheduled maintenance, installations, equipment moves, and infrastructure changes. Maintain accurate rack layouts, equipment inventories, cable schedules, and infrastructure documentation. Assist with server and network equipment installations, replacements, and decommissioning. Monitor data centre access and ensure access procedures and security controls are followed. Coordinate with third-party service providers, contractors, and vendors when required. Assist with data centre audits, compliance activities, and operational reviews. Identify and report infrastructure risks, faults, and potential service interruptions. Level 1 Desktop Support Provide first-line technical support to end users via telephone, email, ticketing systems, and in person. Troubleshoot hardware, software, operating system, printer, connectivity, and basic network issues. Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, mobile devices, and other IT equipment. Assist users with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, email, Teams, VPN, and other business applications. Create and manage user accounts and access requests in accordance with organisational procedures. Perform password resets and basic account administration where authorised. Diagnose and resolve common desktop and connectivity problems. Install approved software, patches, drivers, and updates. Provide basic support for network connectivity, Wi-Fi, switches, and peripheral devices. Escalate unresolved or complex incidents to Level 2/3 engineers or relevant vendors. Maintain accurate records of incidents, requests, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions. IT Infrastructure Support Assist IT engineers with the maintenance and support of servers, network infrastructure, storage, and other IT systems. Perform routine infrastructure checks and health monitoring. Assist with backups, system checks, patching, and preventative maintenance. Support network and server troubleshooting under the direction of senior engineers. Assist with hardware installations, upgrades, replacements, and configuration. Follow change management, incident management, and problem management processes. Participate in planned maintenance and after-hours support when required. Assist with disaster recovery and business continuity activities. IT Asset Management Maintain an accurate inventory of IT hardware, software, and data centre equipment. Record equipment allocations, movements, repairs, replacements, and disposals. Ensure IT assets are correctly labelled and tracked. Coordinate equipment deliveries, collections, repairs, and warranty claims. Assist with hardware lifecycle management and refresh programmes. Ensure equipment is securely stored and appropriately disposed of in line with company policies. Monitoring, Incident Management & Escalation Monitor IT systems and respond to alerts and incidents. Log, categorise, prioritise, and track incidents using the IT service management/ticketing system. Resolve incidents within agreed service levels where possible. Escalate incidents appropriately when they cannot be resolved at Level 1. Communicate clearly with users regarding incident progress and expected resolution times. Identify recurring issues and report trends to the IT Manager. Assist with root-cause investigations for recurring infrastructure or desktop issues. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate technical and operational documentation. Update standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge-base articles. Maintain data centre diagrams, rack layouts, asset registers, and equipment records. Ensure IT operations comply with organisational security policies and procedures. Follow health and safety requirements when working with IT and data centre equipment. Requirements
Diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. 2-4 years’ experience in IT support, desktop support, data centre operations, infrastructure support, or a similar role. Experience providing Level 1 / first-line IT support. Experience working with Windows desktop environments and Microsoft 365. Basic understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and VLANs. Basic understanding of servers, storage, backup systems, and data centre infrastructure. Experience with IT service desk/ticketing systems. Experience with hardware installation, troubleshooting, and asset management. Good understanding of IT security principles and access controls. Experience working with vendors and external service providers would be advantageous. Willingness to work outside normal business hours when required. Technical Skills The ideal candidate should have working knowledge of: Microsoft Windows 10/11 Microsoft 365 Microsoft Teams and Outlook Active Directory / Entra ID Basic networking and troubleshooting DNS and DHCP TCP/IP VPN technologies Printers and peripheral devices Desktop and laptop hardware Server and data centre infrastructure IT asset management Backup and monitoring concepts IT service management/ticketing systems Remote support tools Advantageous Certifications: CompTIA A+ CompTIA Network+ ITIL Foundation Microsoft certifications Cisco CCNA Data centre/infrastructure-related certifications Key Competencies Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Good organisational and coordination abilities Excellent attention to detail Strong communication and customer-service skills Ability to prioritise multiple incidents and tasks Ability to work independently and as part of an IT team Ability to work under pressure in a critical IT environment Good documentation and reporting skills Strong understanding of IT security and confidentiality Proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues Willingness to work outside normal business hours when required
