Job description

Seeking a hands-on Senior/Lead-level Software Engineer who can code, lead technical decisions, mentor engineers, and help shape the strategy of company’s enterprise AWS-based data platforms (Swift & FAB) - delivering scalable, secure, and supportable solutions for the entire enterprise.

  • The Torque Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer operating at or near a Lead Engineer level to help deliver, support, and strategically evolve the enterprise platforms that power company’s Data Fabric strategy - including Swift and Fabric Access Bridge (FAB).
  • This role blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership. The successful candidate will not only build and support platform capabilities, but will also help determine the most effective and efficient way to deliver them - thinking beyond individual tickets or teams to the enterprise-wide scale, security, governance, and sustainability of these platforms. A technical coding assessment is part of the interview process, and candidates must be able to code hands-on - this is non-negotiable.
  • Location : Since this will be a hybrid position, candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the Charlotte, NC area. At this time this is a location requirement, not a preference - candidates outside the Charlotte area should not be submitted., Beyond day-to-day delivery, this engineer is expected to act as a technical leader for the Torque platform portfolio:
  • Help define the technical direction and roadmap for Swift, FAB, and related platform capabilities.
  • Evaluate solution options for scalability, security, supportability, and enterprise-wide impact - not just the immediate ask.
  • Identify the most effective and efficient way to deliver, favoring standardization, automation, and self-service over one-off fixes.
  • Mentor and elevate other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and pairing.
  • Partner with Product Management, Architecture, Cybersecurity, and consuming product teams to balance speed with long-term platform health., Delivery & Support
  • Design, build, test, and support cloud-native software and platform services.
  • Build APIs, automation services, and self-service tooling for platform consumers.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and improve observability.

Strategy & Architecture

  • Translate ambiguous business needs into scalable, enterprise-ready solutions.
  • Recommend architecture and design approaches that hold up across many consuming teams.
  • Contribute to reusable engineering patterns and platform standards.

Communication, Engagement & Availability

  • The Torque Team is primarily NOT co-located, and the majority of collaboration happens through virtual meetings, chat, and written documentation. As a result, strong communication and engagement habits are considered a core job requirement - not a soft “nice to have.” Suppliers should weigh these skills as heavily as technical ability when screening candidates.
  • Must be an active, engaged participant in virtual meetings - camera on, prepared, and contributing rather than passively attending.
  • Must proactively communicate status, blockers, and risks rather than waiting to be asked, since there is no hallway conversation to catch issues informally.
  • Must be comfortable driving and participating in technical discussions, design reviews, and troubleshooting sessions over Teams/virtual channels.
  • Must write clear, concise documentation and async updates that colleagues in different locations and time zones can follow without live explanation.
  • Must build trust and rapport with distributed teammates and stakeholders through consistent, professional, and personable communication.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in Software, Cloud, or Platform Engineering

Level:

  • Senior Engineer trending toward Lead - must show leadership without formal management title

Coding:

  • Strong, current hands-on coding in Python and/or Java; must pass live coding assessment

Cloud Platform:

  • Hands-on AWS experience building enterprise-scale platforms (not just usage/consumption)

Data Platforms:

  • Must show BOTH Data Lake AND Data Pipeline development experience

Infrastructure as Code:

  • Terraform (Enterprise) - able to write, debug, and explain modules/providers

Containers/Orchestration:

  • Kubernetes and Docker in production environments

Communication:

  • Able to explain technical topics to non-technical stakeholders

Platform & Software Engineering

  • Category: Skills

  • Infrastructure: Terraform Enterprise, Infrastructure as Code, Git

Preferred

  • Additional AWS: Step Functions, SNS, SQS, Aurora, EMR, Redshift, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
  • Tooling: Concourse, Vault/Secrets Management platforms
  • Architecture: Cloud migration experience, Kubernetes-based microservices, observability/monitoring

Benefits & conditions

Pay: $81.00 - $91.00/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to sit on Primary Talent Partners W2 without sponsorship.
