Job description

We are searching for a SCADA Manager to lead our SCADA engineering team. This is a people leadership role first. You will own hiring, coaching, development, and retention, set clear performance and team goals, and hold your people accountable to them. This is not a hands-on engineering position. You will not be building screens, writing scripts, or configuring PLCs. You will bring enough technical depth in SCADA and controls to understand how the work gets done, judge engineering quality, and make informed decisions on behalf of the team. The right person operates as a strategic leader rather than a tactical manager. You will define where the team should be in one to three years and build the plan, headcount, and processes to get there. Strong communicators, capable negotiators, and business-minded leaders will do well in this seat. Candidates who prefer to figure it out as they go and assert before they ask questions will not. Key Responsibilities

  • Hire, onboard, develop, and retain SCADA engineering talent at all experience levels
  • Set clear performance expectations and team goals, then hold individuals accountable to them
  • Run regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and career development plans for every direct report
  • Build succession depth so the team is not dependent on any single engineer
  • Own workforce planning, including headcount forecasting, skills gap analysis, and resource allocation against business demand
  • Define the strategic direction of the SCADA group and align it to broader company objectives
  • Oversee day-to-day SCADA operations and project portfolios, including SLAs, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage the team budget, including training, tooling, certifications, and technology investment
  • Establish repeatable processes and standards for engineering quality, documentation, and delivery
  • Evaluate emerging SCADA and OT technologies and drive adoption where it creates real business value
  • Partner with architecture, security, and safety teams to maintain compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, clients, and vendors on SCADA capability and capacity
  • Negotiate scope, timelines, and resourcing with project leadership and customers
  • Present team performance, risks, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership

Requirements

  • 8 to 12 years of experience in SCADA, industrial controls, or OT environments
  • 3 or more years directly managing engineers or technical staff, including hiring and performance management
  • Demonstrated track record building, developing, and retaining technical teams
  • Experience owning budgets, resource plans, and portfolio-level delivery commitments
  • Working knowledge of SCADA platforms such as Ignition, AVEVA or Wonderware, FactoryTalk, or Iconics, sufficient to oversee engineering quality and make informed decisions
  • Understanding of PLC-based control systems and industrial network architecture
  • Familiarity with OT cybersecurity practices, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory frameworks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with technical teams, executives, and clients
  • Proven negotiation and stakeholder management ability
  • Business acumen with the ability to connect team capability to revenue, margin, and growth
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Ignition Core certification preferred, not required

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive salary of $135,000 to $170,000, commensurate with experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), providing you with an ownership stake in the company
  • 401k with company match
  • Paid vacation, sick, and holiday time
