Unum is a leader in the insurance industry, dedicated to providing innovative solutions and exceptional service. Our Documentation Management team plays a crucial role in ensuring our systems run smoothly and efficiently, and we’re looking for a skilled Business Programmer II to join us.

What You’ll Do:

Design, code, test, and troubleshoot programs using the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.

Maintain and modify existing programs, implementing approved changes.

Develop simple applications utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.

Test and develop programming modifications to enhance functionality.

Write new program code following prescribed specifications.

Write and maintain programming documentation to ensure clarity and consistency., * Design, code, test and troubleshoot programs utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.

  • Maintain and modify existing programs; make approved changes.
  • Develop simple applications utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.
  • Test and develop programming modifications.
  • Write new program code using prescribed specifications.
  • Write and maintain programming documentation.
  • Evaluate simple interrelationships between programs such as whether a contemplated change in one part of a program would cause unwanted results in a related part.
  • Analyze performance of programs and take actions to correct deficiencies based on consultations with users and approval of supervisor.
  • Confer with users to gain understanding of needed changes or modifications of existing programs. Resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
  • Conduct or support low to moderate level of analysis and research of data to support management decision making.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience is required.
  • 4+ years’ experience of business or financial analysis, management reporting, or related work experience is required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex applications.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience in Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

C/.NET Developer Required Qualifications

Programming & Scripting:

  • Strong proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem (.NET Core, .NET Framework, ASP.NET).
  • Experience working with SQL (Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) for database development, optimization, and queries.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and DevOps tasks.
  • Familiarity with Entity Framework or other ORM frameworks.

Web Development & APIs:

  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and Web APIs (ASP.NET Web API, Minimal APIs, or gRPC).
  • Knowledge of frontend technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Blazor, or React is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Git for version control (GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps).
  • Strong understanding of Microservices architecture and Message Queue Systems (RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, etc.) is a plus.

Cloud & DevOps (Preferred):

  • Experience with Azure or AWS for hosting, CI/CD, and cloud-based services.
  • Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for containerized applications.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.

Operating Systems & Infrastructure:

  • Comfortable working with Windows Server environments, including IIS for hosting .NET applications.
  • Experience with Linux (SUSE, Ubuntu, RHEL) for scripting, deployments, or containerized applications.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, and security best practices.

File Formats & Data Processing:

  • Ability to manipulate PDF, JPEG, and AFP file formats programmatically.
  • Experience with third-party libraries such as iTextSharp, ImageMagick, or Ghostscript for file conversion and processing.

And that’s just the beginning…, The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$61,295.00-$115,800.00
