Job description

  • The Information Technology Services Data Center Operations Manager (DCOM) administers and maintains information technology systems for the Data Center, Network and Telecom under direction of the Director of Information Technology Services
  • Assists in providing information technology operational functions to the District’s technology needs for the organization’s Data Center hardware, software and voice/data network solutions.
  • Assists in the purchase, installation, and life-cycle maintenance of Server, SAN and LAN equipment.
  • As appropriate, provides escalated on-site support of hardware, software and network connectivity issues to direct reports
  • Acts as the primary point of communication for the Director of ITS and the operations of the Data Center, network services, and telecom services
  • Performs local administration and operations functions as appropriate in accordance with standards, policies and procedures.
  • The position is supervised by the Director of Information Technology Services and has the District’s Network Engineer and Telecom Technician as direct reports.
  • May coordinate and direct the activities of direct reports and other staff in cross-organizational and cross-functional teams on a project basis with Data Management and/or other information technology stakeholders

DUTIES

  • Assists in development and implementation of disaster recovery/business continuity planning to offices and staff in multiple operating, business and functional units.
  • Responsible for local inventory maintenance and software license management for Data Center operations
  • Monitors security compliance in accordance with BBOE-ITS and BBOE standards, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintenance of systems documentation such as ITS operations manuals and network topologies
  • May serves as the technical and communications liaison to and from stakeholders and office key users for ITS communications, initiatives, needs assessments, etc.
  • Assists in procurement, installation and life-cycle maintenance of BBOE-ITS hardware and software (servers, networking equipment, operating systems and other software
  • Manages the automation systems and upkeep of providing new staff with account setup and information systems access and acts as the point of contact for the Help Desk Lead on all issues related to access
  • Provides escalated technical support that requires an on-site presence (Server, NAS, network or equipment failure), including data backup recovery. Performs complex software/hardware troubleshooting, patches and re-installations in cooperation with the Help Desk and in accordance with established SLAs.
  • Provides consulting/training/education services such as data management and staff training/orientation for standard BBOE-ITS systems.
  • Serves as the ITS point of contact for the Data Center and MDF/IDF locations in BBOE facilities
  • Assists the Director in the selection for local vendors, contract and outsourcing for project implementation.
  • Performs appropriate duties associated with division and ITS project-based activities.
  • Participates in the identification, development and communication of new technology standards and best practices as appropriate.
  • Responsible for monitoring BBOE-ITS data backups in to ensure that they are completed on a regular basis.
  • Provides direct management and leadership to Network and Telecom engineering staff
  • Other duties as assigned., * Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects under the direction of the Director of ITS
  • Assist in obtaining quotes with vendors for the purchase equipment and supplies for Data Center, Networking and Telecom needs

Requirements

Do you have experience in Customer service?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years related experience or equivalent combination.

  • Professional certifications as appropriate, Cisco, Brocade and Dell certifications a plus.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the specific field.
  • Demonstrated experience with standard software applications, including Microsoft Office, Office 365, Google G-Suite and Microsoft Windows. May require database management skills with ability to produce reports. Ability provide management and assistance to network operations and telecom operations. Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
  • Familiarity with support and troubleshooting of Windows operating systems.
  • Must have a strong dedication to customer service, training ability/experience a plus.

  • Duties are performed under minimal supervision., * Work and communicate with a wide range of people - peers, vendors, the public, staff members including faculty, staff and students and others external to the District.
  • Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion. Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • Formulate and clearly communicate ideas to others.
  • Fluency in English and the primary language of the country or region supported.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Work requires ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Work may require moderate physical exertion and/or physical strain.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the City of Bridgeport to different BBOE locations
  • Ability to work under stress during peak workload periods.
