Principal Electrical System Engineer

• BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience. \n

• Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education. \n

• Technical competence in all of the following areas: motor control theory, power amplifier design, circuit level signal processing, FPGA control and signal conditioning, and power conversion from 10’s of watts to 1kW. \n

• Solid problem solving, decision making (related to cost, schedule, technical and risk), and closure skills (dedication to close open items/issues) to ensure mission success \n

• Solid presentation skills and ability to communicate complex concepts to widely varying audiences. \n

• Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very complex problems and implement constructive change \n

• Working knowledge of interface and design documentation, such as functional block diagrams, PCB design, layout, and fabrication documentation skills \n

• Experience through the entire system lifecycle from concept, design, production, integration, test, launch, to operation support. \n

• Detailed design experience in analog circuit, digital circuits, FPGA, PCB Layout, and electronics packaging. \n

• Detailed design experience with closed loop stability design and analysis \n

• Experience using position feedback techniques including encoders and resolvers. \n

As electrical engineering lead, you will lead a team of electrical engineers through the program life cycle to develop electronic controls systems for various complex, high precision, and high reliability applications.\n \n \nThe Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. • Provide technical leadership for multidisciplinary system team (optical, mechanical, focal plane, power, thermal, RF, software) including suppliers to create, influence and define discriminating electronics solutions involving scan mechanisms, fast steering mirrors, spin mechanisms, cryo coolers, and other mechatronic systems. \n

• Provide subject matter expertise in space-based electronics systems and components to include motor control theory, closed loop stability analysis, embedded algorithm implementation, 2 and 3 phase BLDC motors, stepper motors, voice coils, resolvers, encoders, power electronics, motor drives, and other sensing methodologies. \n

• Lead resolution of electrical hardware anomalies at the system level and determine root cause and corrective action at the engineering development level and with flight hardware. \n

• Compose objective, quantifiable trade studies incorporating heritage system designs as well as new technologies and supplier capabilities to guide critical architectural decisions affecting the performance of other systems and subsystems. \n

• Electrical system-level modeling and simulation, analysis, trades, risk assessment, requirements derivation, allocation, and flow down leveraging MATLAB Simulink, LTSpice, DOORs, MBSE, and various other system engineering tools. \n

• Maintain end-to-end electrical compatibility, functional allocations, and margins across entire system \n

• Hands-on involvement in every aspect of design, development, production, and test. \n

• Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the design phase. \n

• Present analysis, findings, and design to peers, internal management, and customers throughout program phases (Proposal, IBR, SRR, PDR, CDR, IV&V). \n

• Mentor junior engineers in mission understanding, electrical subsystem technologies and concepts. \n

• Develop electronics to quality and reliability standards for NASA, NOAA, DoW, and classified customers. \n

• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. \n

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. \n

• Perform other duties as necessary. \n

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.\n \n Working Conditions:\n \n \n

• Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. \n

• May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. \n

• May access other facilities in various weather conditions. \n, nA security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. \n \n Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills \n \n \n

• Experience in creating and delivering aerospace electronics systems and subsystems. \n

• Experience in creating and delivering space-based electronics systems and subsystems. \n

• Analytical experience with TOR-level design standards including WCA and Part Stress. \n

\n Pay Information\n \nFull-Time Salary Range: $132962 - $226035\n \n \nPlease note: This range is based on our market pay structures.
