Job description

We are seeking a University Teacher to teach courses in data analytics and AI and to supervise student projects, including bachelor’s and master’s thesis projects. Teaching responsibilities include developing and continuously updating course materials based on the latest scientific advances. This is especially important in the rapidly evolving fields of data analytics and AI, because courses must incorporate up-to-date AI methods, tools, and techniques. At the same time, students need to develop the skills to use AI responsibly and effectively as part of their learning process. You will play a key role in equipping students with both a strong theoretical foundation and the practical competencies to do this.

The position is based in the Information Systems group, in the Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences (IE&IS) department at Eindhoven University of Technology. You will be working with our professors, PhD students, and teaching assistants to deliver high-quality education. The Information Systems group develops methods, tools, and techniques that support the entire lifecycle of Information Systems development, including advanced analytics and AI. It focuses on leveraging data analytics and AI to enhance organizational decision-making. Applications across various sectors are studied, with a focus on healthcare, transportation and logistics, services, smart industry, mobility, and energy. As a member of the group, you will contribute to teaching students how to improve organizational decision making with data science and AI.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality course materials, teaching lectures and tutorials, designing assignments and exams, and supervising student projects, including bachelor’s and master’s thesis projects. In addition, 20% of your time will be dedicated to education-related research.

The position is initially offered for a period of six months on a full-time basis or up to twelve months on a part-time basis. The appointment can be combined with another part-time position, such as a role at another institution or an existing PhD or postdoctoral appointment at TU/e. Depending on performance and available funding, there may be opportunities to extend the appointment or move to a permanent position.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the education of the next generation of data analytics and AI professionals, while helping shape the future of AI education at the university.

Requirements

  • You have a Master’s or PhD degree in Data Science, AI, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a similar field of study.
  • You possess strong programming skills, preferably in Python, and are comfortable applying them in data analytics and AI contexts.
  • You have a strong interest in education and some prior teaching experience, for example as a teaching assistant.
  • You enjoy collaborating in (teaching) teams.
  • Your communication skills are excellent as is your proficiency in English and your ability to collaborate in an international setting.
  • Experience with the Dutch or broader European higher education system is considered a strong advantage.

Benefits & conditions

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station.

In addition, we offer you:

  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 10 or 11, ranging from € 3,706 to € 6,682 gross base salary per month (full-time).
  • In addition to your base salary, you will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus, both calculated based on your annual gross base salary.
  • Generous leave options: a standard 29 days (based on a 38 hour working week) per year that you can increase to 41 days by working two hours more per week (flexible working hours). This is prorated if you work part-time.
  • As a TU/e employee, you participate in the ABP pension scheme, providing retirement pension and pension benefits for surviving dependents and occupational disability. TU/e pays 70% of the pension premium, while employees contribute the remaining 30%.
  • A favorable arrangement for more holidays or a sabbatical.
  • A selection model for additional fringe benefits.
  • Working hours in consultation for an optimal work-life balance.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, and on-campus children’s day care.
  • Unlimited access to the modern on campus TU/e Student Sports Center at an exceptionally affordable rate.
  • We support your wellbeing with free 24/7 access to OpenUp, providing you and your family with mental health support, expert guidance, and online training.
  • Scope for your talent with advancement prospects and excellent development opportunities such as mentoring, workshops and coaching.
  • Partially paid parental leave and reimbursement for commuting expenses, working from home and the internet.
