Job description

  • Write and maintain simple, well-tested software components (primarily in Python) to interface with hardware and handle sensor data
  • Support configuration of edge devices and integration with cloud services, learning MQTT-based messaging and end-to-end data flow
  • Carry out structured testing, calibration and validation in the lab, with occasional site-based testing and commissioning
  • Help diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues using test equipment and debugging tools
  • Support on-site installation, commissioning and maintenance activities, working safely with engineers and project teams
  • Document builds, configurations and fixes so systems can be supported and improved over time

Requirements

As a Junior IoT & Embedded Systems Engineer for British Engineering Services Group - Asset Reliability, you will be an early-career engineer building strong practical skills in IoT and embedded systems, learning on the job within a supportive and experienced team. You will contribute to the design, build, testing and ongoing support of embedded sensing and data acquisition systems that underpin our asset reliability solutions., * Some hands-on exposure to embedded systems through university projects, placements, hobbies or a first role

  • Comfort with practical electronics work such as soldering, wiring and building prototypes
  • Basic programming capability (Python preferred, but other languages welcomed)
  • Awareness of common communication methods and data transfer concepts (e.g. serial, TCP/IP, publish/subscribe)
  • An interest in testing and troubleshooting, with a structured and curious approach to problem solving
  • A proactive, ‘get-things-done’ mindset with good communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to attend occasional site visits
  • A degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or a related discipline (desirable)
