Job description

As a Distinguished Data Scientist at Walmart, you will lead the development and deployment of advanced analytical models and machine learning solutions to address complex business challenges. This role requires deep expertise in data strategy, predictive analytics, and visualization to translate business needs into actionable insights. You will collaborate across functions to drive data-driven decision-making, mentor team members, and ensure scalable, high-impact solutions. Your work will directly influence Walmart’s strategic initiatives by leveraging innovative technologies and fostering continuous improvement in data science practices.

About the team:

At Walmart Global Tech, the Marketplace Engineering team drives innovation in global commerce by supporting a fast-growing eCommerce platform. The team enables thousands of sellers to efficiently manage digital storefronts, optimizing product listings, pricing, and inventory. They deliver seamless pre- and post-order experiences through intelligent, resilient systems. Leveraging real-time data and integrating with partner platforms across Walmart’s ecosystem, the team ensures exceptional customer experiences. Focused on scalable, reliable solutions, they collaborate across functions to advance technology roadmaps and support sustained business growth.

What you’ll do:

  • Analyze complex business problems using advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques to identify root causes and recommend effective solutions.
  • Develop and implement predictive models and data-driven strategies aligned with business objectives to drive measurable impact.
  • Design and deliver compelling data visualizations and narratives that clearly communicate insights to stakeholders and influence decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions and ensure data quality and governance standards.
  • Mentor team members on analytical methods, model validation, and best practices to enhance overall capability and innovation.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling to develop innovative solutions.
  • Proficiency in feature engineering and advanced statistical methods to enhance model accuracy and robustness.
  • Strong knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques to communicate complex insights effectively.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into data-driven strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Expertise in data governance, quality standards, and scalable data management practices.
  • Skilled in coding languages such as Python and SQL for model development and deployment.
  • Proven capability to mentor teams and drive continuous improvement in analytics practices., Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 6 years’ experience in an analytics related field. Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years’ experience in an analytics related field. Option 3: 8 years’ experience in an analytics or related field.

Data science, machine learning, optimization models, PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Publications or active peer reviewer in related journals or conference, Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch), We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly. Bellevue, Washington US-11663: The annual salary range for this position is $156,000.00 - $312,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
