Tech Lead - Java

We’re working with an established, growing SaaS business looking for a Tech Lead to join its product engineering team.This is a hands-on role, combining software engineering with technical direction, architecture and mentoring. You’ll lead a cross-functional product squad and play a key role in the continued development and modernisation of a large-scale SaaS platform.The role:Lead the technical direction of a cross-functional engineering squadRemain hands-on, building scalable, high-quality softwareMentor and support engineers through technical reviews, 1:1s and development plansWork closely with Product and Data teams to shape new features and solutionsTake ownership of architecture, performance, scalability, reliability and securityContribute to the ongoing modernisation of the platformHelp improve engineering practices, deployment frequency and overall deliverySupport technical hiring as the engineering team continues to growWhat we’re looking for:Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring - essentialExperience as a Senior Software Engineer, Lead Engineer or Technical LeadExperience within a SaaS, MarTech or data-driven product environmentPrevious experience mentoring and developing engineersFrontend experience with React and TypeScript would be beneficialExperience working in cloud-native environments using AWS or GCPExperience with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CDStrong understanding of software design principles and testing practicesComfortable working cross-functionally with Product, Data and Engineering teamsThis is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to remain close to the code while taking greater ownership of technical direction and helping develop the wider engineering team.Sphere is an equal opportunities employer.
