Job description

Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming great products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. We are looking for a DevOps Specialist to join our global engineering team and help shape the infrastructure that powers our development workflows.

In this role you will setup and maintain development environments that enable engineering teams to build, test, and ship with confidence. You will provide expert-level support across our end-to-end application landscape, conducting deep technical investigations to resolve complex issues and drive root-cause analysis.

You will automate manual tasks related to release deployments and system maintenance - turning repetitive operations into reliable, repeatable processes. You will investigate and introduce new technologies to enhance the performance, scalability, security, and stability of our environments.

Working in close collaboration with developers, you will design and deploy new features, support the configuration and deployment of new tool releases, and ensure smooth rollouts across the stack. You will operate within a follow-the-sun model alongside a distributed global team, with asynchronous handoffs and shared accountability.

Occasional work on weekends to support downtime activities and on-call duties will be required.

Requirements

Systems Administration: Expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and macOS

Containers and Orchestration: Strong experience with Docker (image builds, registry management, Compose) and Kubernetes (cluster deployment, Helm charts, scaling strategies)

Cloud and Infrastructure as Code: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or Apple internal cloud services) and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation)

CI/CD and Build Engineering: Solid understanding of CI/CD fundamentals - build pipelines, automated testing, artifact management, and deployment workflows - with hands-on Jenkins experience (declarative and scripted pipelines, shared libraries, agent management)

Source Control and Code Review: Experience with Gerrit and Git - code review workflows, branching strategies, submodules, LFS, and access control

Scripting and Automation: Proficiency with Python, Shell (Bash/Zsh), and familiarity with additional languages (Go, Ruby, Groovy, or similar)

AI/ML Awareness: Familiarity with AI/ML tools in development and operations workflows - AI-assisted coding, LLM-based automation, or MLOps pipelines

Troubleshooting: Strong root-cause analysis, incident response, and ability to debug complex issues across the full stack

Global Collaboration: Proven ability to work in distributed, multinational teams operating under a follow-the-sun model

Self-Driven: Takes ownership end-to-end, identifies improvements independently, and finds innovative solutions to complex infrastructure challenges

Teamwork: Strong collaborator with a genuine willingness to help teammates and stakeholders succeed

BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Systems Administration

Preferred Qualifications

Networking - TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, VPN, and firewall configuration

Web servers - Nginx, Apache, or similar (configuration, reverse proxy, SSL/TLS termination, performance tuning)

Storage expertise - configuration, exports, performance tuning, and troubleshooting (CephFS/NFS/etc)

Database administration - Postgres/MySQL , MongoDB/NoSQL

Monitoring and observability platforms - Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk
