Job description
Own the target-state architecture for the enterprise data platform on Microsoft Fabric - OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, pipelines, and semantic models. Define the layered (medallion) architecture and the storage and compute patterns that balance scalability, performance, and cost. Set standards for ingesting data from source systems (e.g., D365 F&O, Spectrum, Sage) and for downstream consumption in Power BI. Guide platform adoption, sequencing, and licensing decisions as the estate matures.
Data Engineering, Modeling & Database Administration Design logical and physical data models - dimensional, normalized, and semantic - balancing performance, flexibility, and business usability. Architect and review data pipelines (ETL/ELT), transformations, and orchestration for reliability and maintainability, and direct engineering partners delivering them. Apply expert SQL and database administration - performance tuning, indexing, security, backup/recovery, and monitoring - across relational and cloud data stores, hands-on when the work calls for it. Establish data quality, reconciliation, and observability practices, monitoring pipeline health and driving remediation.
Governance & Master Data Management Define and monitor the data governance program - ownership and stewardship, cataloging, lineage, classification, and access controls. Establish and monitor master data management (MDM) across key domains (e.g., customer, vendor, item, finance/GL), including matching, survivorship, and stewardship workflows. Track and report governance and MDM metrics - data quality, adoption, and compliance - to leadership, and partner with security and compliance on privacy, retention, and controls.
Direction, Standards & Enablement Set and enforce data architecture standards, review key designs, and mentor data engineers and analysts. Advise leadership on data strategy, roadmap, trade-offs, and risk.
Requirements
Deep, hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience (OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, pipelines) - or a strong Azure
Synapse / Databricks background with Azure SQL that transfers, and the ability to own Fabric quickly. 8+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or database administration, including designing enterprise data
platforms. Expert-level SQL and strong database administration (performance tuning, security, backup/recovery,
monitoring) across relational and cloud databases. Proven data modeling (dimensional and normalized) and ETL/ELT pipeline design. Hands-on experience establishing and monitoring data governance and master data management programs. Strong command of data quality, lineage, cataloging, and security/access controls. Communication - the ability to translate data concepts for both technical and business audiences. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data/Analytics, Engineering, or a related field - or
equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have Microsoft Fabric certification (DP-600 Fabric Analytics Engineer, DP-700) or DP-300 (Azure Database
Administrator). Experience integrating ERP source data (D365 F&O, Spectrum, Sage) into an analytics platform. Power BI semantic modeling and self-service analytics enablement. MDM tooling and data catalog/governance platforms (e.g., Microsoft Purview). Exposure to multi-entity, multi-segment enterprise environments and finance data domains.

About the company
IES is building its enterprise data platform on Microsoft Fabric from the ground up - and we’re looking for the architect who will own it. This is a rare greenfield mandate to design the models, pipelines, and governance that turn source-system data into a single, trusted source of truth powering reporting and analytics across a large, multi-entity, growth-by-acquisition organization.
You’ll set the direction - how data is ingested, stored, modeled, secured, and consumed - with the autonomy to shape the platform end to end, external engineering partners to direct from day one, and a clear runway to build a team around you over time. If you want to own an enterprise data platform rather than inherit one, this is that role., IES is a national provider of industrial products and infrastructure services to a variety of end markets, including electrical, mechanical and communications contracting solutions for the commercial, industrial, residential and renewable energy markets. IES is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the symbol IESC. As of the end of IES’s 2025 fiscal year ending September 30, 2025, IES produced over $3.3 billion in revenue and employed over 10,200 employees at over 174 domestic locations across the United States., The IES policy on equal employment opportunity prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, individuals with disabilities, protected veterans, or any other protected status or characteristic. This policy applies to recruiting, hiring, transfers, promotions, terminations, compensation, benefits, and all other terms and conditions of employment, and also states that retaliation against any employee who files a complaint regarding possible violations of this policy will not be tolerated. IES is also committed to taking affirmative steps to promote the employment of minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans. IES develops affirmative action programs to support its commitment to equal employment opportunity, consistent with company policy and the company’s obligations as a contractor to the United States government.
