HIMS Specialist

• Numbers, sorts, preps, scans and indexes incoming paperwork, covers courier and records release.
• Numbers paperwork with MRN.
• Sorts paperwork into the 90+ document types for electronic charting. Scans prepped paperwork into scan application.
• Indexes scanned paperwork into each individual patient electronic chart.
• Quality checks at all levels for accuracy and quality of document.
• Processes and completes requests for release of information, adhering to all compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Acts as internal courier for all interoffice and USPS mail.
• Processes imaging requests and imaging uploads. Answers and assists needs of patients, providers, outside entities and inter-departmental phone calls, in-basket messages and health maintenance requests.
• Processes records release inquiries from patients, outside provider’s offices and internal call transfers.
• Courier station answers internal calls for supplies or inquiries of interoffice and USPS mail. Courier responds to funeral home inquiries in the absence of manager and lead.
• Performs other maintenance and departmental functions such as payor correspondence and reviews (i.e., RAC, HEDIS, MRA).
• Completes special projects or assignments as needed.
• Complies with all applicable healthcare laws, regulations and standards.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Participates in staff meetings and huddles.

• High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• Medical office or medical records experience preferred.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Knowledge or complementary experience with electronic health record systems and HIPAA regulations.
• Ability to work easily in a Windows computer environment with complimentary knowledge of Excel, Outlook and Word.
• Requires the ability to adapt to changing duties and priorities in a high production environment.
• Ability to research and problem solve.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Customer service phone and in person skills required.
• Must have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members.
• Ability to observe all clinic safety precautions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• RHIT Certification or complimentary HIM experience preferred., * Physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account.
• Physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers.
• Endurance (e.g., continuous data entry, prolonged, sitting, standing/bending, walking).
• Ability to lift 20lbs.

• General office environment in a fast-paced outpatient multi-specialty clinic setting.
• Exposure to moderate levels of noise and activity.
• Works with team members as well as other Summit Health departments to deliver optimal patient experience and meet clinic goals.
• HIMS Lead Specialist (also Grade 24) has the same duties plus
