Job description

Advanced level position with technical work providing specialized database support and application service technical support using Oracle and other vendors, database engines and products in an enterprise Unix or Windows environment supporting administrative or academic information systems and services. This position will be part of a team that works with one or more of several administrative or academic information systems and other associated integrated systems. Performs technical tasks independently in multiple operating systems environments and will work with senior level team members to develop processes and procedures for new and updated service implementations. Tasks are varied in nature and often time critical. The customer base and the service environments are complex. Identification of and adherence to IT best practices and standard operating procedures for the unit are important, however, flexibility in meeting the needs of customers is also a key consideration. Data-based decision making is expected. This position will require some after hours, weekend, and overnight work .

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Managerial

  • Maintains a consistent, high quality, customer-focused orientation when conducting business and providing services or products to clients, the general public and other external customers.
  • May supervise a team or virtual team of IT specialists as needed to support service objectives or deliverables.

Technical

Performs or mentors other team members in performing the following:

  • Administers multiple Oracle RDBMS and application server environments on multiple operating systems to support the needs of integrated administrative or academic services.
  • Ellucian Banner 9 experience.
  • Setup and configuration of Identify Providers
  • Proficiency in Oracle 19c or higher RDBMS and Weblogic/Tomcat or higher is required.
  • Competence in Banner Student Information System and associated integrated systems.
  • Experience with the following: Ellucian Solutions Manager (ESM), JAVA, Jenkins, and Redhat 7.x or higher.
  • Maintain releases of Banner 9 applications, troubleshoot and fix errors in existing applications systems.
  • Serves on virtual teams, guided by service managers or service directors, as needed to provide database, architectural and technical applications support for the delivery, stability and maintenance of integrated administrative or academic services.
  • Serves as service area technical lead for providing production technical support for administrative or academic services to University System campuses technical staff.
  • Serves as service area technical lead for new projects or service needs and research related to new and emerging technologies.
  • Serves as mentor to lesser-skilled team members in multiple service administrative or academic service areas.
  • Working with service managers or directors, serves as team lead for change migration and release management technical tasks.
  • Applies update scripts, including but not limited to, database interventions (DBIs) as part of ordered change management and production support for integrated administrative or academic services and other associated integrated systems.
  • Independently installs, evaluates, and tests new versions of RDBMS software and tools and ERP upgrades in multiple operating system environments.
  • Provides Oracle support as it relates to making recommendations regarding maintaining the integrity, and recovery of Oracle database installations.
  • Works with strategic team leaders to manage the coordination of synchronizing versions with the operating systems, utility packages and software applications.
  • Provides recommendations for Oracle and other vendors’ database tuning and systems maintenance as it relates to management of version upgrades & certification of software applications on new versions.
  • Provide guidance as appropriate to application development personnel as it relates to tuning SQL application code
  • Support load testing tools configuration, usage, monitoring and results evaluation related to application testing and tuning.
  • Recommends actions and provide analysis & troubleshooting for possible hardware, software, network, process, and system failures.
  • Uses a variety of tools to build or implement scheduled, ordered execution of specific tasks to support database and application updates.
  • Specifies user accesses and user access levels for database objects.
  • Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database as it relates to providing availability and stability.
  • Assists programmers and analysts to make changes to database management system and services.
  • Answers support staff and co-worker’s questions
  • This is an on-call position that typically follows a team rotation. After hours work and emergency after hours work is required when needed.

Requirements

This position is for permanent, full-time employment. Candidates must reside in the state of Georgia or be willing to relocate to Georgia as a condition of employment.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States., * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least eight (8) years related IT experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least three years of Information Technology experience working with the installation and maintenance of server based RDBMS software, in a multi-tiered Unix or Windows operating environment.
  • Must be able to work within deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a cross-functional team environment
  • Must be flexible quick learner focused, detail oriented.
  • Occasional travel.
  • Able to work on a schedule that includes nights, weekends or holidays when required for upgrades or resolution of production availability issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to function well and maintain customer focus in fast-paced, stressful environment
  • Interacts well with diverse population
  • Familiarity with using enterprise middleware such as Oracle or Weblogic or TomCat
  • Experience working in an Oracle environment supporting and resolving issues related to the deployment of administrative or academic services support applications in a web-deployed, multi-tier environment.
  • Must be able to travel as needed, including consecutive overnight stays where applicable, to support organizational objectives and initiatives.
