How can you make an impact?We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a strong Data Engineering background to join our Higher Education technology team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable data systems and software solutions that power learning platforms, institutional analytics, and student success initiatives. You’ll work closely with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to ensure the availability and accuracy of data across the organization. This is a critical technical role that bridges data engineering and analytics, ensuring that our data infrastructure is scalable, reliable, and optimized for analytics and business intelligence. What You’ll DoDesign and develop robust, scalable data pipelines to support educational platforms and analytics productsArchitect and maintain data infrastructure including data lakes, warehouses, and streaming systemsCollaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and instructional designers to translate educational goals into technical solutionsLead and mentor junior engineers, conducting code reviews and promoting engineering best practicesOptimize database performance, query efficiency, and data quality across systemsEnsure data governance, security, and compliance with institutional data policiesContribute to architectural decisions and technology roadmap planningMonitor and troubleshoot production data systems, ensuring high availability and reliability What You Bring:Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field preferred. Advanced degree is a plus.5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in data engineeringExperience designing and deploying event-driven / streaming data integration solutions at production scaleHands-on expertise with Apache Kafka or comparable streaming platforms (e.g., AWS Kinesis, Apache Pulsar, Confluent Platform)Proficiency in one or more mainstream programming languages: Java, Python, or GolangStrong working knowledge of JSON Schema and event schema design, including versioning and compatibility strategiesDemonstrated track record taking streaming solutions from initial design through to production deployment, QA/testing, and operational monitoringExperience with observability tooling - metrics, alerting, and logging for streaming pipelines (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)Familiarity with cloud-native data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholdersKnowledge of data governance, compliance, and security best practices.
