Job description

The assignment is open only to current regular District employees who have passed probation. Priority will be given to candidates who meet the minimum qualifications. This is a full-time assignment and is anticipated to last approximately six (6) months in length. The individual selected for this position will retain their current pay and benefits but receive extra compensation in the form of “Acting Pay” at a rate of $20 per day. The individual who performs all the significant duties and responsibilities of such position for thirty (30) consecutive days or longer shall be paid at the first step of the higher class or five percent (5%), whichever is greater, effective the thirty-first (31) day of acting employment. The acting pay can never exceed the maximum authorized pay range of the classification. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply. GENERAL FUNCTION: Under general supervision provides a variety of computer, peripheral, and user support in a networked environment; analyzes and troubleshoots problems related to personal computers and computer networks; and performs related duties as assigned.

Example of Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Installs, configures, maintains and troubleshoots computer hardware and software
  • Installs and configures printers, scanners and other peripherals
  • Maintains a support response system with a high degree of focus on customer service
  • Responds to user’s computer related problems
  • Develops solutions in a timely and helpful manner
  • Diagnoses hardware and software problems
  • Implements corrective action
  • Ensures information services policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Performs network administration duties
  • Performs support of third-party software applications
  • Performs system administration duties including account creation, troubleshooting, file management, passwords, and email
  • Provides product consultation and advice to other Park District staff; assists with technical and administrative projects related to the Park District’s IT program
  • Assists in the implementation of new or revised computer systems
  • Researches applications and hardware
  • Recommends software
  • Equipment needs for end users.

OTHER FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

  • Orders and picks up parts and supplies
  • Maintains computer (hardware and software) inventories
  • Replacement schedules
  • Serves as backup for creating active directory accounts

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, with a focus on quality service to internal staff and external customers.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass Level 2 Background Check.
  • This position may be required to respond and assist in the event of a major system outage as needed and may be required to work unusual hours.

Requirements

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science or a related field,

Or

Completion of a major certification program such as Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) or a related certification training program,

AND

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in technical support of desktop hardware and software. Experience in a networked environment is desirable.

Or

Substitution: A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

AND

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification.

  • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers
  • Software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
